Padres vs Rockies May 13-15
Quote from Alex Tamayo on May 15, 2024, 3:33 pmQuote from WindsorUK on May 15, 2024, 3:20 pmWhy is Arraez not playing?
Only been here 2 weeks and getting his second game off? WTF??? He's only 27 for god sake! PLAY HIM!
And Machado??? 3 K's ? Not acceptable.
This team needs a HUGE shake up.
You can add that they have a day off tomorrow, read that Machado's elbow still it is not 100%, than WTF is he playing, IL him and give Solano, Wade or Pauly a chance, they can't do worse, can they?

Quote from sportwarrior on May 15, 2024, 3:48 pmI am beginning to cave into the depressing reality that we may have hitched our wagon to the wrong fucking horses. Manny Machado's performance today was unacceptable, and I'm tired of it. Tatis wasn't much better. Boegy, at lease, has shown some fire and absolutely smoked 3 outs today. But that's about it. These guys need to wake the hell up and EARN THEIR MONEY. We deserve better than this.
Maybe Saint Pete can haunt Manny a little and scare him out of being a loser.

Manny is playing because Manny says he wants to play … and the organization is just afraid of him. By that I mean they “know’ if Manny does not get his way he will sulk and basically quit causing a bad situation of the team. A Manny that quits on the season leads to a very bad season for the Padres. The only route to a good season is a “happy” Manny … and that is not easy to get. Manny wants to be in the line-up and probably bat #4 …
IF his elbow is not 100% … he should have started the season in the IL and even eased more in during ST but that is not Manny. Remember a couple of years ago he was injured and “refused” to go on the 10 IL then did not play for most of those days costing the team a bench player replacement. Manny wants to be on record as not being on the IL … does not care if that hurts the team.
Never was a Manny fan … but his 2022 is performance allow me to put blinkers on during that season. Now back to my original view of him … not a player I want on my team.
I do think he will get “better” results later in the season … maybe not to his MVP level but better … and too late to save the Padres’ season.

Quote from fenn68 on May 15, 2024, 5:12 pmJust a curiosity … the Padres offense is much better AWAY than at HOME … OPS .756 (better than league average) vs. .697 (below league average).
However, same issue with the pitching with the AWAY OPS yielded .647 vs HOME OPS yielded .718.
Basically opponents have a better OPS at PETCO than the Padres but the Padre have a better OPS than the opponents AWAY from PETCO. So, if PETCO is an issue ….it is only an issue for the Padres.
Makes no sense but there it is.

Quote from WindsorUK on May 15, 2024, 5:43 pmPreller has built a poor team? I think that's the answer to your question Fenn.
You need to build a team that takes advantage of YOUR home stadium. Ours does not, and has not, since Preller has been here. Padres are 21st( out of 30!) since he took over. No way he survives another losing season.

Quote from fenn68 on May 16, 2024, 3:51 amI think 2025 is the critical season …. Preller will have one year left on his contract after that season (easy to eat) but the contract for Shildt will be over and Arraez, Cease, King become FA and Suarez will opt out …. Profar and Kim will be FA after 2024. With little elite prospects on track to impact 2026 and a work stoppage likely in 2027 … the logical time for a purging.
By then the new ownership should be sorted as to decision makers and who knows where they will stand financially.
Actually, probably don’t need a losing season to have the purge … anything less than going deep into the playoffs might set things in motion.

Can any GM team build a team that works for the HOME stadium (are those players available … or any good?) and would that roster be able to win in AWAY ballparks? Been saying that in COLO since they arrived.
Not even sure these days what profile of players work at PETCO while working in other venues … and do they exist en masse.
Does it really make a difference if the them struggles at HOME but wins AWAY and makes the playoffs? Just get the best “overall” roster and win more than you lose over 162 no matter where or who you win against.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 16, 2024, 8:08 amI think bringing in a guy like Arraez is a good start to building a team that plays at Petco.
Now add two more…one to hit 2nd and one to hit 9th.
Not sure who these guys are or how to acquire them..
But high OBP guys who hit singles and doubles play everywhere…bonus if they run like Nando.

Yeah, we tried that. Didn't work.
Having a handful of stars leaves the rest of your 25 man depleted.
Develop your own talent, keep it, sign a few solid FA's every year or so, make savy trades. Mind you, have to be good at your job to pull it off. Unfortunately as mentioned earlier, Padres record since AJ took over as GM ranks 21 out of 30. 1 playoff run in 9 full seasons. Way below average. Guy has been given an unlimited payroll and still couldn't put together a good team.
Need to change direction at the top, otherwise we'll keep ending up down dead end roads.
