Tatis and Myers with COVID ——- non-roster adds in Kivlihan and Andreoli
Profar, Mateo, and Hosmer in contact tracing —- rostered adds in Marcano, Crismatt, O’Grady
27th man ——- rostered Ramirez
Not sure if the rules for adding non-roster add impacted this ... but maybe a factor with the only certain 10 day being the COVID positive players.

No, think they just chose to go with Kivlehan (power, MLB experience) over Castillo. Might feel like Castillo is too similar to Marcano? Looking for a potential HR off the bench?
On paper it's a C & 2 OF on bench, but Nola can play 2B/1B, O'Grady 1B (& 3B?), so must feel it's enough versatility to get through a long day here. Kivlehan & Andreoli I believe can be removed from 40-man roster without going through normal DFA process when Tatis & Myers return. Hopefully some or all of Profar, Mateo, & Hos are back in uniform Friday @ home vs Cards.
I'd love to see a big win game 1 & live with the result game 2. No extra innings please 🙂

Both Castillo and Kivlihan were non-roster ... so that was not the factor.
Given they are in COLO ... agree they probably like the power from Kivlihan who can play 1B/3B/OF.
Kivlihan and Andreoli can be returned to EP without being DFA ... and come off the 40 man.
IF Profar, Mateo, and Hosmer come off “early” ... not sure who goes back to EP.

As uplifting as last night’s game was ... back to the pits through 4 today.
The good: Darvish is pitching well (1 unearned run)
The bad: getting let down by the defense
1. Grisham catches a fly for the 2nd out ... man on first and tries to double him off (in itself not a bad idea) ... but uncorks a very bad throw that was so far off line the 1B nor the catcher could knock it down ... runner to 2nd ... scores on a single.
2. Pham totally loses a fly ball in deep left (drops for a double) .. no run scores ...but more importantly cause a number of extra pitches for Darvish. Note he clear mis read a foul fly a few pitches later that dropped in play
3. Offense is non-existence ... one hit by Kim that should have been an error on Story

Update: Marcano gets a legit single in the 5th.

Great move when it works ... Grisham bunts with 2 out and bases loaded ... perfect bunt and the tying run scores.
Losing in the 5th of a 7 inning game makes for some different choices.

Why would you put a way too untested bioengineered product in the young healthy body of your $340M investment? No one has any idea of the long term effects of this new vaccine type.
Well,45% of the country has had the shot.......that’s many many millions....that’s seems pretty well tested?
I guess your against the vaccine but I was just thinking about the cost to these franchises involved when losing players to this thing.
I saw where some teams who are fully vaccinated don’t have to wear masks in the dugout etc...so “someone” must think it works.
Certainly wouldn’t suggest the players should be forced too...but with what these guys have to go through(last year and this) you would think they’d do what was needed to stay healthy and avoid all these precautions etc.

I saw they were warming up Ramirez ... made me check the “27th man” rule. As with most MLB rules a lot of conditions, not straight forward.
From the way I read it the 27th man can be only be used in the second game. So, Ramirez must not have been designated the 27th man ... O’Grady started, so not him. Does that make Kivlihan the 27th man? But wait, Kivlihan is on deck so it is not him. Those are all my choices from those called up for today.
Can the Padres just mix and match as long as one does not play in game 1? 27th man does not have to be a pitcher. Then, the 27th man has to be on the 40 man or added ... do the COVID vacancies cover him as the 27th man vs a COVID replacement?
I have another .... is game 1 the rescheduled game and therefore really game 2 and all then can play. Game 2 could be the originally scheduled game and it really is the game with the limit on use of the 27th man.
Got it? I pouring a drink.

Well ... more piling on Pham ... ball should have been caught ... yes long run but landed in pocket and bounced out. Home scoring as a double.
That is three bad defensive efforts by Pham today making the pitchers work that much harder.
Hill getting hit so that potential out missed may be critical.
