As we head into a tough match up today against Texas, wanted to give a shout-out to Hosmer and Myers and whoever they have been working with this season to be much better hitters than I've seen in the past 2 years.  With Pham out, we really need them to continue to have good years and be the kind of players they have flashed in the past.

Great point.  Hosmer has clearly made an adjustment to his swing/approach.  Myers is doing what Myers can do; think it REALLY helps him to just stay put at one position & lineup spot & not have to be "the guy" / face of the franchise....

... now if we only had someone to fill that role 🙂

Tonight is a really tough matchup.  But I look for Chris to get back on track.  Go PADRES!

Just a shame that Andy Green didn't realize that which was so obvious to the rest of us.

Better late than never.

I said that all last year that Andy Green screwed with so many guys they didn't know which way was up and sure as hell didn't want to play for him....they played in spite of him.

Tingler has let Meyers  just settle it and be consistent in what he does and it's showing.

I don't know how Tingler will do as a manager but as long as Andy Green isn't in the dugout it is a win

  1. Trent Grisham (L) CF
  2. Fernando Tatis Jr. (R) SS
  3. Manny Machado (R) 3B
  4. Eric Hosmer (L) 1B
  5. Wil Myers (R) RF
  6. Jake Cronenworth (L) 2B
  7. Josh Naylor (L) DH
  8. Jurickson Profar (S) LF
  9. Austin Hedges (R) C

Question

If Grisham goes into a regression in the leadoff spot would or could Cronenworth be a viable option to hit in the leadoff spot ?

I say yes because he just seems to be locked into just playing regardless of the circumstance.

Would think Cronenworth would be the the guy .... both are running neck and neck in OBP which is what you want at lead-off. Grisham does get a lot of pitches (big on BB) but Cronenworth is also avoiding quick AB. Both can run. Cronenworth has shown surprising power (doubles in the gaps) with a greater SLG% ... not sure where that is better served lead-off or 5th-6th in the batting order.

Appears that Tatis' move the #3 is here to stay and the other options just get on base enough to warrant lead-off.

Paddack needs to get back to throwing strike one.

He won’t make it 5 innings if he keeps this up.

He is wasting way too many pitches....maybe he’s a little gun shy?

Well,maybe he’s Gun shy for a reason.

Yet another homerun he’s surrendered.........Ugh!

Super frustrating when you know the pitcher is going to throw you a fastball on every pitch and you still can’t hit him.

I guess for the season Lynn is 90% FB but some are 2 seamers ... some are 4 seamers ... and some are cutters ... all with very good command. So not just a FB.

Whatever it takes, running as one of the best ERA in MLB so far. It works for him.

Profar over the past few weeks has really turned his season around from absolutely nothing to at least his norm. Nice opposite field HR tonight. Looks comfortable in LF.

After this series ends with Texas, I'd still like to get Todd Frazier as our DH/reserve 1b/3b.  I think he could be a significant contributor down the stretch and won't cost us an arm and a leg.  Hope all that nonsense about unwritten rules is put aside.

Padres would probably have to beat Texas in the next two first. In this odd season, Texas is not all that far out of a Wild Card slot with a 10-12 record ... think only one game out in the loss column with 38 games to play.

Padres are only 13-12 and just holding on to the last Wild Card slot.

Probably too early for an pretender contender to pull the plug.

If you were listening to the FSSD broadcast ... both Orsillo and Grant were over the top praising Frazier’s character and clubhouse presence ... basically a great guy to have on your team ... did not even mention he was also a pretty good player.

Doubt they “know” anything but Frazier would be a good add to the playoff run and an upgrade over France .. so may after the Padres sweep these two with Texas.

Yes they aren’t all the same....but they are all 91-95 mph.

They aren’t dealing with almost any off speed pitches.

Still must be frustrating to hitters.
