There must be a reason why this healthy 21 year old, who had not allowed a hit, was taken out? Injury perhaps?
Pre planned prior to the game ... has to do with the work level at the alternative site. May be pitching more there but with a lot less competitive effort. He would not have gone deep in the game no matter to preserve his arm.

No lead is safe with this Bullpen.
Which is why you swing on 3-0 if you want to no matter the score.

Should have let him continue until he showed signs of fatigue( a la giving up a hit)
I still think in this short season you let guys throw. Arm fatigue shouldn't come into play over 60 games.

I have been a real fan of Guerra's POTENTIAL but getting worried about him realizing that potential. Velo is great ... movement inconsistent ... but control / command just poor. Looks like he is regressing not improving.
The opposition his making very solid contact consistently of his offering this year.
Young ... yet out of minor league options ... how to the keep him around at the same time they want to contend (this goes for next season too). Bit lucky in 2020 with the roster allowing for "extra pitchers" but 2021 likely back to 13 active.
Is he "so ineffective" now that a DFA could clear waivers ... remember a claiming team would have to keep him on the active roster. 100MPH is good but no longer uncommon ... so maybe his appeal given his results is not there.
His effort today with a 6-0 lead was abysmal.

Maybe Guerra is part of a bigger deal if Preller can put something together?

Impressed with Torrens AB in the 5th ... 2 out and runners at 2nd and 3rd. He didn't panic in his first game up and chase close pitches that were balls. Got the walk. Just maybe he can help the offense.
Didn't see any pros or cons on defense but Grant seemed to relate the Padre' positive view of his defense work in the minors.
Out of options in 2021 ... very good chance he displaces one of Hedges or Mejia. Then soon after Campusano displaces the other.

Patino not looking much better than Guerra!
Either this kid is really uncomfortable as a reliever or he's just not ready.
Our bullpen is REALLY bad.

Maybe a bit of both. I know he got a lot of hype ... and probably deserved the optimism given his stuff ... but he is still only 20 and barely pitched above A ball.
It was not that many years ago that a 20 year old pitcher making an impact in the ML was a real rarity. Even making the ML active roster was unusual. Unfortunately for the pitchers ... recent a lot of hitters have made a splash at age 20. Maybe just more difficult for a SP to hit ML level that an uber athletic hitter with skills.
Patino at 20 ... Morejon at 21 ... is aggressive. Also, Gore is only 21 and a bit worried that a lot of media / fans want him up NOW ... probably just to see the new toy ... and then dump on him if he struggles.
Hope the Padres don't get influenced by the media / fans and bring them along on a pace that suits each individually ... Preller does like to be aggressive in promotion for development so doubt he will "hold them back" but the fans need to work through their struggles which should be expected.

Pomeranz looked good ... surprised he was taken out after a batter in the 8th ... Pagan scared me ... no idea the plan for the last of the 9th IF Pagan struggles.
Johnson and Strahm used yesterday ... Hill just should not be used as a closer.
Better score a lot more in the top of the 9th.
