Padres vs Marlins May 5-8
Quote from fenn68 on May 8, 2022, 5:26 pmCubs in on Monday. Cubs are a bad team ... old team for the most part ... however their payroll is maybe around league average.
Padres need offense but are a bit payroll constrained as the are scraping the luxury tax threshold.
I present Ian Happ a good offensive OF who is hot so far this season. However, he does make nearly $7MM but is controlled through 2023 and the Padres will need OF support in 2023 post-Myers.
Would the Cubs deal Happ ... probably for a quality prospect or two. However, the Padres probably don't want to take his contract so either the Cubs would have to eat some or they would take a contract back (e.g. Lamet). Either scenario would require a strong prospect package.
No idea what would work for each team but the Cubs are suffering in SP ... so prospect based (e.g. Weathers +) or a ML option for 2 years of Happ (e.g. Snell or Darvish both with 2 years control? plus a lesser prospect).
Just a thought.

Pitcher: Cole Sulser (MIA)
Situation: Bottom 9th, 2 out, 0-0 count, Runners On 1st and 2nd
