Padres vs. LAA

Page 1 of 4Next

Lamet is listed as the Wednesday starter.

Tingler undecided on Clevinger going Thursday (LAA) or Friday (OAK). Note: OAK seems to have cleared the COVID protocols and the Friday game should be a go.

It seems either it is Clevinger, on 8 days rest, or Davies with 6 days.   I think we need to get Clevinger back on the mound as soon as possible to get him back in the rhythm of the rotation.  Davies seems like he can adjust to anything and likely will be a kind of pitcher the A's don't see very often so think he will be very effective against them.  If you follow Davies with Paddack and then Richards, think we will be very competitive against the A's in that last road series before back at PETCO.

But I do LOVE the idea of the same team seeing Davies right after Lamet.  Adjust to THAT!

Just another reason I’m very happy AJ didn’t trade Gore or Weathers.

I’d really like to have at least one effective Lefty in our rotation.

I think the bigger issue is to make sure Clevinger, Lament and Paddock pitch against the Dodgers

I don’t know....I kind of like the idea of Davies going between Lamet and Paddack.

His finesse is a big contrast from the power pitchers.

Either way it’s now a good “problem” to have.

I agree, anything to help break up/change the timing of hitters in a series is a good thing IMO.

Well it looks as though Clevinger goes tomorrow ... will miss the LAD and face LAA-COLO-SF.

Good idea in the "bigger picture" ... Padres and LAD will be in the playoffs and the way it is projected Padres meet the LAD in the second round. Might it not be better to have the LAD see Clevinger for the first time in a playoff game than seeing him in the season and learning from that?

======

Should be some interesting SP juggling in the later part of Sept with off days ... trying to keep the starters sharp ... and trying to position Clevinger into the most impact full position.

I like it.  Big trade, get him going.  Not worried about 3 games with LAD 12 games from now.  Even if we sweep them, it's unlikely we catch them.

Padres going for a couple of days with 12 position players and 16 pitchers ... guess did not want to call-up Almonte or Mejia for expected short time Myers out.

Allen starts tonight in RF batting 9th.
