And yet you still hear his name bantered about in trade talk........

When's the last time we developed an OF with this kind of power and defense? McReynolds?

He is making his case (offensively and defensively) that he is the OF that survives. Since I do like defense as a factor that plays every game (hitting can be streaky) the OF if he has any offensive chops with defense gets the edge.

IF Myers just comes back to “average” (and before this season he was a poster child for consistency as around .790 OPS) an OF of Myers / Margot-Jankowski / Renfroe would defensively complement the Urias / Tatis / Machado INF and combined make the pitching look that much better.

Since their offense is not that special ... the defensive limited Reyes and Naylor would move to being the trade chips.

I go back & forth on Renfroe & Reyes... I do feel like Reyes has the POTENTIAL to be not just a HR machine, but a .270 /.340 guy which Renfroe (AND Myers & Margot ) realistically never will.  Plus an extra year of control, and only 3 yrs of arb vs Renfroe's 4 (super 2).  BUT Renfroe is so much better defensively even relative to himself 1-2 years ago, let alone Reyes.  Can run a little, better arm, and most importantly more reliable health-wise.

At the end of the day, Myers LF, Margot/Jank CF & Renfroe RF just feels like the best alignment... but may need to find a star at one of the OF positions, and no one on the horizon.

another speculative concern on Reyes ... for the long haul .... is because of his size playing in the OF everyday MAY be an issue as he gets older with a lot of wear and tear on his body (think Kyle Blanks).

Green, commenting on the day off he gave to Reyes last week, acknowledged that the Padres recognize can’t play long runs of consecutive games and he is just 24. Project that into hot summer months and that could be more problematic.

He needs the DH at some point ... but as a “regular” OF he may have to end up very limited in his games. Even though he looks to have the potential to be a better hitter than the Padre other OF options ... he also has the potential to not be available regularly.
