Padres vs Giants July 7-10
Quote from MrPadre19 on July 8, 2022, 5:03 amMLB may as well change the HPB rules.
When was the last time an Ump called the “have to make an effort to get out of the way” rule?
They don’t even care if you lean into it these days.
May be picking nits here but when you’re down one run and need base runners you’re not going to try to avoid the HBP esp. on the foot like Slater did.
We win 1-0 if the rule is enforced and Joe gets the deserved W.

Agree … and need the umps to call whatever rule is settled upon.
A few games ago Grisham was hit by a pitch and the ump did disallow it … justifiably since Grisham clearly stuck his padded elbow over the plate clearly trying to get hit.
Would be a interesting debate on what should be the rule. Clearly if the batter makes a move to get hit by the pitch that is not a HBP. However, some will argue that the hitter “owns” his position in the batter’s box and should not have to move to accommodate a bad pitch (pitcher is at fault).
Now a bit of balancing of that is potentially elimination of all that elbow / arm armor that allows hitters to more comfortably take the hit.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 8, 2022, 7:17 amI think the back foot (not leg/ankle etc) ..Back foot should not be hbp... most of these are extreme slider or curve ball type pitches with great movement if a ball hits the dirt and then hits a back foot it should not be a hbp... Rogers has done this like 4 or 5 times already this season... thats a lot of free paces on excellent pitches...

Quote from Jeremy Hill on July 8, 2022, 10:53 amWell glad we got the win at least. Hopefully Profar is ok and doesn't have to miss too much time. That was weird to watch from the stands. It reminded me of the situation with the Chargers and Kris Dielman years ago.
Looks like the Giants are going with a bullpen day. Sam Long is starting for them. He's opened a handful of games, but has topped out at 3 innings.
Today is also the debut of the City Connect jersey. Maybe it'll inspire Blake Snell to get into the win column. It seems like his kind of jersey.

10 to go til AS game.. need them all... 1 at a time lets go!... If i were to bet (Profar 7 IL concussion protocol) I would probably say Profar won't be back until after All Star Game... he has played virtually everyday.. not only will the rest help him heal 100% BUT a few extra days + the break should envigorate him for the stretch run...

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 8, 2022, 11:06 amAlso because of what Profar brings to the top of the lineup and Grish struggles ...I may be more inclined to retro 60 IL Myers and add Estury Ruiz (to lead off and create havoc) to the 40/26... than bring up the easier move in Rooker (already on 40) but dont know how Pads feel about this... Rooker is red hot at the moment and Ruiz has cooled down a bit ..but still seems to contribute (sacrifice/SF/SB/R/get on base) every game ..even ones where he doesn't get a hit on ...
Selfishly I am rooting for an Estury Ruiz on the lineup leading off tonight

Quote from fenn68 on July 8, 2022, 12:39 pmSeems that the Padres are debating the move to cover Profar’s IL … which may be longer than the 7 day concussion IL. So, Rooker may not be the obvious call-up.
I guess adding to the debate is the fact that Kim has a sore thumb and is day-to-day making the need for Abrams to be the starting SS … taking him out of the OF mix in the short term.
Ruiz’s chances are getting better … think he is a better call-up than Rooker if the objective is a starting role. Also heard the creative option of calling up Campusano and free up Nola / Alfaro for some OF time.
IF the Profar diagnostic is a longer duration IL … Padres may accelerate the trade discussions with OF a priority.
