Padres vs Dodgers National League Division Series Oct 10-16
Quote from BoosterSD on October 12, 2022, 7:37 amOn the negative note, Clevinger didnt have it last night. And Soto is still not Soto, ugg.
On the positive note, a few things. Our bullpen held solid, the Dudgers did not add on after Clevinger left the game. We scored 3 runs off LAD best starter, and one that has given us fits all season long. LAD used a lot of their better BP guys. And for the most part, Kershaw is not Kershaw in the playoffs. And Soto has tormented Kershaw in the playoffs.
I never thought SD would get the first game anyway. Get Kershaw tonight, and go back to SD 1-1, just as I had thought. Take both in SD, and all will be right!

Quote from MrPadre19 on October 12, 2022, 7:37 amSnell is now listed as probable starter for Friday night.
So we could go 3 and out and Musgrove not pitch against the dodgers?
My guess is they want the Lefty Snell and Joe would come in in relief if Snell struggles?
Joe has just been so dang good the last month or so (I know Snell has too but which do you think "could" implode all of a sudden?)
I just trust Musgrove to pitch well more than I do Snell.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on October 12, 2022, 7:39 amA perfect song for today
Out of the ruins
Out from the wreckage
Can't make the same mistake this time
We are the children
The last generation (the last generation, generation)
We are the ones they left behindAnd, I wonder when we are ever gonna change, change
Living under the fear, 'til nothing else remainsWe don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond Thunderdome💯... Lets find our way beyond ThunderdomeLets Go Padres!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on October 12, 2022, 11:06 amSnell is going to have to make a start for us to win the series regardless. Whether it's game 3 or 4 doesn't really matter. We just need him to pitch well. As long as we don't get swept Musgrove will get his shot to either close it out or send it to game 5.

Wonder how much the opposing pitcher impacts the sequencing of Musgrove and Snell. Both will have to start one game ... and good chance both will need to win their starts ... so if they think Musgrove can pitch the best game line him up against their best pitcher and give Snell (and the likely RP) maybe some more breathing room by scoring against the lesser of the two opposing pitchers.
Also, with a Thursday off ... the pen will be fresher to support Snell (who usually needs the support) and bet Musgrove can give you a long start.
Sunday does line-up as a bullpen day with everyone in play ... and if Musgrove goes long on Saturday ... again the bullpen is set-up with more rest.
This is all easier if Darvish wins tonight. If Padres lose, fans will be frustrated with Snell in an elimination game on Friday with Musgrove sitting but if Musgrove went on Friday (and won), Snell is in an elimination game on SAT drawing on the RP and putting them at a disadvantage on SUN elimination game.
The objective is to win the series and the proposed set-up might be the best. Losing in 3 and Musgrove not pitching should not even be an issue ... about the team not the player.

Snell historically has done his best work vs the LAD..I believe his all time ERA vs LAD is 2.50.. in 9 G 9 Starts.. 1-1 W-L... 39.2 IP (so avg only slightly more than 4 1/2 IP per) has avg close to 13 SO/9 vs LAD.. we just need 5 IP from Snell on F.. and our BP to be up to the task again.. Martinez/Suarez/Garcia/Hader
Save Joe for the sweep (next 3 games) on Sat..bring Yu back if need be on Sunday.. We Got this. LETS GO PADRES!...

It’s not about the player…..it’s about the fact he’s been absolutely unhittable lately and if we lose in 3 and he never pitches it would be a bad baseball decision.
You know if we lose in 3 and Snell pitches poorly this will be a huge subject of conversation.

Quote from MrPadre19 on October 12, 2022, 6:44 pmHopefully Yu settles down and the Ump calls strikes a strike.
Should be 3-1 right now.
Our hitters need to take advantage of Kershaws’ 1st pitch fastballs down the middle.
