Padres vs Dodgers June 30-July 3

Voit and Alfaro need to be ribbed on the bus ride to SD... hey Jorge yes Luke...look at my ball..bro no look at mine!... they'll get the message...

Azocar base running instincts are on the complete opposite side of Machado's.. lets stick that in our memory banks

Nick Martinez is one hell of a pitcher man.. 2 3 inning + Saves now and today a huge WIN...

We were 2 outs away from falling 5.5 games behind LA.

That win was huge!

I just hate the way this team looked today….and all series really.

These guys standing and watching is just embarrassing….it’s one thing if it’s a no doubter…these were obviously not no doubters.

Surely BoMel has already had the conversation with them?

Side note:we really need Martinez no Crismatt in the bullpen next years.

Add a healthy Morejon and we’d have 3 guys who can go multiple innings and keep us in games.

In the minors, they are trying to stretch Baez to go multiple innings as well as former starters Lamet and Bachar.  It's been inconsistent but improving, especially when you have some extreme hitters parks in both leagues and all historically have been fly ball pitchers.  Johnson, if he can pitch, would be an upgrade.  That's probably the outlook for the rest of 2022 for long relief - I really don't trust Knehr that much and Weathers has looked horrible.

Looking ahead to 2023, Crismatt and Morejon are under team control but Martinez may want to be a starter for some team and opt out.  At his age, probably won't see too many more opportunities.  Could bring back Johnson, who is able to go multiple innings when healthy.  Sleeper could be Westphal, who has performed well going through a line-up more than once, if you need another lefty to go multiple innings and probably can be stashed on the El Paso roster unless he goes Free Agent.

I hate to say this because I like both Voit and Alfaro but when you stand there watching something you hit in the field of play and not trying to help it stay fair like Carlton Fisk...it makes me wonder who they are playing for....the name on the front or the name on the back....players like that cheat the game, their team and themselves but the positive is that any coach worth a damn would use that as a teaching moment and show all of his players what NOT to do.

You just got handled 3 games in a row and you stand there and watch it ?

Voit especially needs to accept that the new ball isn't carrying like the old one. He's hopped out of the box and watched a handful of balls that have died on the warning track. It's probably hard when you hit what up until this point had been a no doubter, but they just need to get out of the box and run until they know it's gone.

Don't forget "Nails" Steve Wilson... he has been very very good and can go multiple innings

I was shocked at Alfaro more than anything ..that dude hustles at line drives to infielders.. But yeah I thought Voit hustling would have been a triple and maybe an inside the park HR the way Lux completely lost the ball and the lack of the CF coming over to help... Better to happen like this and learn from it..than cost us a game down the road.... . I think guys like Hos and Machado probably made a little skit on the Bus ride about it and Alfaro/Voit got the message and learn the lesson... On to the Mariners... Lets Go Padres... 13 to AS ...Win Win Win...!
