Padres vs. Dodgers

Tingler said he was scheduled for a day off after 2 starts; just stuck to that schedule despite RH taking LH SP's spot in rotation. Actually said "he'll be back in there tonight" even though it's now LH Urias. We'll see, but don't think he's going back on IL; if he wasn't ready to come off, they wouldn't have activated him in the first place.
Doubt they put him back on the IL ... but maybe they should ... has not looked at all good upon his return with the "lost weight" and probably strength ... 1 for 13 (a single).
Activating may have misjudged his time to rebound or just though they might just have him complete his recovery while active (not liking the other options). Guessing the latter was their plan thinking his very hot July would carry forward at some level.

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 13, 2020, 12:22 pmWill need him completely healthy in September more so than now.
So if he really isn't 100%,put him back on IL and call up Morejon or Baez to help on bullpen day.

Got to hand it to LA, they are a very good team. Davies was exceptional against that line-up; Stammen doesn't seem to have much left in the tank. I think he moves to the very back of the bullpen if not DFA'd. With Paddack, anything is possible. Beat LA!
Stammen looks like the 15th pitcher on this staff ... age has likely gotten to him. Was not all that sure about the signing last winter ... and for two seasons. Not a likely to be released (don't think he can be DFA'd) at least in the near term ... he does go to the post when called upon and that has some value in keeping the better part of the pen from being over used.
I was tough on him during the off season and voiced my displeasure when we re-signed him.
With injuries to Castillo and Munoz I relaxed a bit and was happy for the depth.
Now I'm back "un relaxed" concerning Stammen.
I think they just need to not put him in any high leverage positions for awhile(all year?).

and next? He is owed $4MM in 2021 (plus a $1MM buyout of his $4MM 2022 option).
Let's just hope he can be serviceable in a some role for 2020-21.

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 13, 2020, 1:04 pmYeah $4m is a lot for a guy who you only want pitching when ahead or behind by more than 3 runs.....
I think I'd prefer Baez and maybe even Gerardo Reyes to be honest.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 13, 2020, 1:48 pmI was in the stands when Stammen gave up 4 straight HRs to the Washington Nationals in early June last year. We had battled Strasburg tough, but Stammen completely blew any chance for us to come back. I was trying to buy the fact that he might have been overused last year when they re-signed him, but this year he's missing his spots and velocity is down. Not the same guy at his age and we'll probably have to swallow that salary for the next two years unless we include him in a trade to some team that is really desperate to get a RP along with a superior prospect. Don't see that happening but definitely in the last spot in the bullpen along with Perdomo. One of those guys has to go to the alternative training site and Stammen has no options remaining. Blow out games only for Stammen in the next games.

You could still send Stammen to alt. site.
If someone claims him they do us a favor and take him and his contract.
No harm no foul either way.

Don’t think they can send him to the alternate site without his agreement. If he clears waivers ... his contract is still guaranteed as a FA ... he could just take the money and run and market himself to anyone this or next year for minimum since Padres would still be on the hook for the contract.
At his age, this contract was probably the last anyway, so he sort of holds all the cards.
