Alfaro does it again. He's looked like a completely different hitter lately. He had a 3:35 walk to strikeout ratio through May. He's at 4:6 in June.

He beat out Nola and now is C 3 games to Nola-s 2... He had a terrific spring to earn the backup spot and now is playing at an All Star level...

I admit I missed the end of this one……so glad today is a day game before another late night series.

He's had a great June. Now we see if he can sustain it. As good as he's been it's still less than 50 PAs. If his newfound plate discipline sticks we might just have something. He was consistently chasing and flailing at breaking balls out of the zone early in the year. His overall performance is still has him middle of the pack. He'll need to show that this is the new him and not just a hot stretch to get to All-Star level.

Steve Wilson is having himself quite a rookie yr

25 4-1 3.67 27.0 29 0.96

He is ranked #2 in all of baseball in something called pitching +.. (heard that on Ben and Woods this morning)... wonder where he ends up in ROY discussions.. I'd imagine top 10 would be a great accomplishment for a non closer Bullpen arm Rookie... glad we have him for 5 1/2 more yrs at least

Concern I had going into whether Wilson would make the 2022 team is his HR rate, since he is very much a fly ball pitcher.  That historically has been his problem and is why his ERA is not as aligned with his WHIP as it should be.  While his 1.7 HR% is not Pagan-esqe, it still is too high to move to the next level as a consistent high leverage arm out of the bullpen.  If you look at Pomeranz and Pierce Johnson, for example, they have HR% under 1.0.   If he can reel in the HR ball, then we'll have really have something but right now it still somewhat of an adventure when he is in a high leverage situation.  Hopefully, he'll get that HR% number down before the end of the season.  Michel Baez has a similar problem and is very much the same kind of pitcher as Wilson.  He can be excellent but he can also break your heart.

Kind of a weird good day for the offense. 13 hits and 8 runs through 6, but only 1 XBH and 0 walks.

And the Defense picked a good time to have its worst day in 4 years.

4 errors on the game.

Something for the Coaching staff to talk about I guess.
