Padres' Manny Machado: Not starting Monday

Machado (ankle) is on the bench for Monday's game against Arizona, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Machado left Sunday's game against the Rockies with a left ankle sprain after he stepped awkwardly on first base. He doesn't yet have a clear timeline for his return, but he'll miss at least one game, with acting manager Ryan Flaherty saying the team was optimistic he'd be able to avoid the injured list, per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. CJ Abrams, who was recalled Monday to give the Padres extra infield depth with Machado unavailable, will enter the lineup at shortstop, with Ha-Seong Kim sliding to cover Machado's vacated spot at third base

Nice to get a win in under 3 hours. Darvish was great after the 1st. Grish and Crone with bombs and Kim with a clutch knock. Good pitching and scrappy offense feels like the blueprint for winning with Manny out. It sounds like we might have him back fairly quickly too.

Nice stat from last night, SD hitters only 3 Ks compared to 5 BBs.

5 innings and 11k’s for Gallen so far….and I swear 10 of them are swinging on a curve ball in the dirt.
If we just stopped swinging at the curve with two strikes Gallen wouldn’t have made it 4 innings.
Hosmer is “completely” lost at the plate….horrible AB after horrible AB.>..never seen anything like it.
Manaea again a tough luck pitcher.If not for Grisham’s error in judgement he may be on the right side of a shutout right now.
Really odd we can barely score at Petco.
Edit:obviously credit has to be given to Gallen.
But at some point these guys need to talk to each other and figure out that you get 2 strikes on you the next pitch will be a curveball in the dirt….”Don’t swing”!

Whatever AJP does in the offseason DO NOT trade for Gallen... 14 second clock is going to absolutely be brutal for him... 😆 🤣 😂
