Padres vs Diamondbacks July 15-17

So they challenge a fair/foul call?

Is it a single if they rule fair?

Maybe if they call it fair Profar throws him out at 2b?

Doesn't make since you can challenge a call like this cause it’s called dead and everything stops.

So they just award him a double?

Seems like BS to me as we didn’t have a chance to make a play!

If it was called correctly who's to say both runners are safe?

Why is it everybody can hit this guy but us?

OK I will give a bit of a pass on Profar’s misjudging the fly ball … lost in the sky in not good but happens … only a bit.

However, Grisham’s effort in CF was worse on two levels … first, was not even close to catching the ball so taking that route vs rounding off was a total read/judgement then second, could not even block the ball on the bounce while he was at least squared up enough to catch or block the ball. Just plain bad effort.

Also, have noticed with Grisham he has been bobbling / juggling hits to him in CF … just routine blunders … not causing a change in the course of the game but makes me worry about his concentration / coordination.

Luckily this one didn’t cost us.

What’s costing us is our inability to string hits together.

This guy can’t beat anyone yet he now has thrown 14 innings against us allowing ONE measly hit.

Pathetic.

A plus for Batten in his AB … don’t see him as a big prospect but battling in the AB then going with an outside pitch the other way for a hit is smart hitting. Much more watchable that getting that pitch and trying to pull it / swing for the fence as many of the other hitter seem to do.

He may become that versatile utility guy down the road that just plays smart ball … we have seen his speed. A good 26th man?

Well not only this guy but about every guy they face. In the past month think they are 28th or lower in most offensive categories in the ML.

In the past 30 days Voit, Alfaro, Hosmer, Grisham are just not delivering consistently (or at all). Surprisingly some of the better hitting in the past 30 is coming from Mazara, Kim, and Nola … who would have thought.

Tatis - Myers get here soon … can’t be worse than the incumbents.

Side: obviously Hosmer has been really bad recently … and it seems that the Padres are not going to carry him as a starter since he is getting benched a lot more (either Voit / Cronenworth to 1B).

OK Voit finds an acorn.

I don’t think Tingler would have benched Hosmer or removed him for late game defense.

BoMel making a difference if for no reason other than making the statement it doesn’t matter who you are or what you make…perform or see bench time.

OK…..there’s something wrong with Grisham.

Wonder how that approach will impact the line-up / active roster / trade deadline moves with the return of Tatis and Myers.

Have to consider the top (OPS) Padres in the past 30 days have been Machado, Mazara, KIM, Croney, and NOLA. With sub-par work from Hosmer, Voit, Grisham, and Alfaro.

Maybe have to keep Kim in the line up … if Tatis at SS they move Kim to 2B and Cronenworth to 1B. Myers to CF if Ruiz starts to faulted but either one bumps Grisham. Need offense NOW so cull out the under performers … somehow.
