Could Tatis's error have been an inning ending double play?

Not likely but he should've held on to it. Next batter made an out and it would still been 2 to 0.

Thanks 84.

Fernando is on pace for about 180 errors this year....YIKES.

He's obviously pressing. Maybe sit him tomorrow?

Too little too late but hopefully that HR will snap Tatis out of that 4 game funk

1st inning Paddock all fastballs and change  ups. Hard to be successful without a curve now and then. Laying off the change low in the zone. He needs to bring it up a bit and throw some fastballs low. Right now it's  fastballs are up changes dip below the zone. Needs to make adjustments now

89 pitches if 4 innings ... not good.

Not sure how SP is working out to start the season across MLB  ... but Darvish, Snell, and Paddack were clearly inefficient and out early. Darvish and Snell are veterans so hopefully fall back into form.

On to Morejon!

I'd still give him a day down before the off day, but maybe not tomorrow after that bomb!  But turning into the yips.

Obvious candidate to DH a game in Texas too.

I really thought Caratini should have caught Paddack, not Campusano.  More assured help with the pitch calls & framing.  I get if a guy just doesn't have a feel for a pitch maybe he doesn't use it much, but Mud & Don were saying he literally didn't throw a curve all day?  I missed first half of game.  Is that really true?  It's just not a workable SP arsenal.  But not his fault we take the L with 0 runs before we're down to the last out.

I'm not ready to throw Paddack under the bus.  He was too good that first year.  BUT he did have a weird development path where he skyrocketed up to MLB quickly after his TJ surgery on the strength of his FB command & changeup.   He would hate it, but maybe he does need to "rotate down" at some point to simply work on his secondaries in the minors with less pressure?

The Padres by making the trades for the Big 3 SP have a serious fringe benefit of possibly being able to gain another year control ($ doesn't matter, it's all about the control years before FA) on:  Gore (extremely likely), Weathers & Paddack; each would need to spend 17-18 days in Minors during the season if back on "old" <2020 rules.  Morejon would have to be down longer; a little over a month I think.  This might happen "organically" anyway to massage everyone's IP workload.

Paddack should go to AAA or alt site upon Lamet's return. He seriously needs to work on his secondary pitches. We have 7 games VS LAD coming up and his spot is a liability.

No curve balls in 89 pitches is a head scratcher ... listening to the post-game interviews with Tingler and Paddack got impression that was the plan ... no idea the logic unless his breaking ball just is not up to par.

I am also concerned about his lack of command of the FB/CH combo ...89 pitches in 4 innings will not work. If the opposition are not swinging at his CH dipping out of the zone he should modify his target (but apparently cannot).

No effective 3rd pitch and lack of command can only be tolerated so long.

Wonder if Weathers has a few more good showings and Morejon is effective in his starts, might the Padres consider moving Weathers into the starting rotation and Paddack out and optioned before Lamet returns (which may not be for a month).

He should at least be showing the Curve.

Or,if he is going to be a two pitch pitcher he needs to move to the Pen.

He's still young...maybe a couple seasons in the Pen while working on additional pitches could be what's needed.

With Weathers/Gore/Lamet/Lawson available(or soon to be) he won't have a very long leash in my opinion.

This is no longer a team that can tolerant poor performance.

You can't win a gold glove in the 1st series but you sure can lose one
