Padres vs Dbacks ... the Opening Series

Per padres.mlb.com ... today's lineup vs MadBum is ...

  1. Pham CF
  2. FTJ SS
  3. Machado 3B
  4. Hosmer 1B
  5. Myers RF
  6. Cronenworth 2B
  7. Profar LF
  8. Caratini C
  9. Darvish P

Like Pham/Tatis 1-2.   Don't love Hosmer 4 vs MadBum (LHP), but get not wanting to break up LH/RH.  And remember his 6? 7? RBI game opening day last year...

First game in this specific situation not as bad as going forward with Nola & Grisham out, since Caratini would C for Darvish anyway, and Grisham probably not 1 vs LHP

Hosmer at Cleanup drives me crazy....."especially" against a Lefthander.

Am I the only one that thinks Myers should be at #4 and Hosmer at 5th?

In most cases(when everyone's healthy) I would prefer Hosmer at 6th to be honest.

But we'll see how it goes...there may not be many on base when he hits anyway with Tatis and Machado ahead of him...

I like Hosmer 4th vs RHP, but really not vs LHP.  Problem is with no Grisham at top, don't want like 5 RH then 3 LH in lineup for duration of game.  IF they trust Grisham #1 vs LHP when back, could see Hosmer drop down.

Think he "gets" about 1-2 months to prove he can hit LHP.  If not, at minimum drops in order.  Worst case start playing someone else @ 1B, but obviously prefera RH vs LHP.  Nola?

We have finally got some valuable production from Myers by leaving him alone in RF and batting #6 .. keeping him out of the spotlight and not shifting him around. I fear regression if move to #4 in the batting order.

Pham to #4 vs. LHP makes more sense behind Tatis and Machado. Lead-off ... consider Nola (catching / 1B), Profar (INF/OF), or Kim (INF)  ... whomever is hitting LHP.

Let's GOOOOO  PADS!!!    So excited for this season!!  Time to take the evil empire down!

I don't love Hosmer hitting 4th against lefties either, but I think we can make an exception for Bumgarner at this point lol.

We get rid of Andy Green, Myers has an EXCELLENT year hitting in the 6 hole, and opening day 1 year later, guys are clamoring for him to be put in the 4 hole?

What am I missing?????

Pham is a well below average fielder in LF, and he opens in CF?

Granted, I didn't see him getting his reps in ST but can Profar, or Mateo really be that bad out there?

Darvish threw 93 pitches in less than 5 innings.

Did he not have much command today? (Can only tell so much from the box score)
