Sorry, what “Pacers situation”?

Last winter Pham went out for a late night dinner at an establishment named "Pacers" ... more known as a "gentleman's club". As he was leaving there was a large fight (apparently he was not part of what caused the fight) but got involved and was severely stabbed causing a major wound and significant rehab.

Nothing to suggest he was anything other than a bystander .... but the image of being at a strip club for dinner ad midnight has not sat well with some fans.

Ah, yes!  I was aware of the strip club incident.  I didn’t know the name of the establishment.  Thanks though!

I keep hearing Pham is a great teammate overall ... remember Snell's comments while in TB when Pham was traded to the Padres. Nothing this season to suggest any issue in the Padres' clubhouse with Pham.

However, Pham does have a "unique" personality ... focused on winning, playing well while being intense and that presents to "fans", in his case, as maybe surly, unfriendly, and self focused (as opposed to team focused).

From most of the commentary I have heard from the local media ... the blow up yesterday was likely the result of a string of fielding issues (beside with Kim ... earlier with Mateo and Pham) that he wants cleared up and the situation has not improved. Also, most are saying Pham was calling for the ball (it is the Ofer's ball coming in) and Kim should have pulled off.

Now blowing up on the field / in the dugout is not a good look but happens a lot ... pretty sure that it did not help he was just starting to hit as his old self after under achieving in 2020 and early 2021 and was upset this incident may set him back (and cost him in FA next winter).

=====

He is a Padre for 2021 and hopefully delivers on the field with minimal drama. FA after the season and since he will be 34 next season and having a sting of injuries over the recent years ... the question is whether the Padres (who by all accounts love him) will try to resign him? Not as though there is an in-house alternative when at the same time likely to need another bat for DH.

I think you make good points.  My issue with him is his response to these situations, like with Mateo, who was attempting to make overtures to him while they were running off the field last week.

I get that Pham stands to lose a lot of money because of potential injuries after collisions like yesterday’s, but as a guy earning less than 1% of what he’ll earn this year, I have trouble feeling sorry for him.  He’s blessed to be able to play ball at the MLB level, and I’ve never seen a Padres player react the way he has on the field.  I expect these guys to cooperate and work through these things.  When a young player in Mateo approaches a veteran and tries talking to them, I expect the vet to talk to them.  When the SS can’t hear you because it’s loud on the field and you collide, lives with it.  I think we need to expect these guys to maintain higher standards.

I’m criticizing his specific actions here and not his overall play or demeanour.  I’m rather fond of him as a player and am still rooting for him.  But I am disappointed.

The issues I had with Tinglers decisions for yesterdays game vs the Cubs.

1. Lamet hadnt gone past 4, and you got 5 great innings. Pushed it too far IMO.

2. O'Grady had a really good night Monday, and you sit a hot bat for Myers who is whiffing a lot lately, especially against an offspeed RHP. Doesnt seem smart IMO.

3. After the last 4 or 5 games, Profar might need to stick to LF or RF. Another reason that O'Grady probably should have started last night, in CF.

Go get Ketel Marte!!
