Padres vs Cubs

Page 1 of 2Next

So after splitting a four game series with the Brewers and taking two of three against the Astros, the Padres finish up their road trip with a three game series at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field against the Cubs.

This should be a good one...the Padres sit on top of the NL West and the Cubs are a 1/2 game back in the NL Central....both teams have plenty of star power and two of the best shortstops in the game.....Tatis Jr and Javy Baez....Paddack on the mound today and after watching Snell get lit up in Houston it would be nice if Paddack continued his upward trend of pitching tough and the Padres as a whole keep hitting....

I was surprised so few people commented on the two Padre wins in Houston....both extra innings....that was fun to watch...Tatis Jr is a stud to be sure

Well Paddack ... facing a good team .... regresses to 4.1 innings / 93 pitches and gets hit hard.

With Snell - Paddack - Weathers - Lamet all struggling to get 5 innings, let alone 6 ... either something changes soon or Preller is out there looking for a reliable innings eater SP to help the pen survive the season.

Darvish and Musgrove have been doing the job so far but need at least one (prefer two) other SP going into the 6th while keeping the game close.

Pham is a jerk....complete@$$hole

That was embarrassing.

The whole game.

Worst played game of the season and we really needed this win today.

No fun on the plane tonight I’m thinking.

What did I miss?

Pham had to leave the game and ended up with stitches in his chin after a collision with Kim on a ball that he was calling and was his to catch. Given what he's dealt with this season and the fact that he just barely avoided colliding with Mateo recently I can see why he would be upset. By all accounts he's one of the hardest working guys in the game, liked by his teammates and has done a lot of unsung work in the community wherever he goes. I think it's perfectly fair to criticize his play, but all of the attacks on his character and who he is as a man are ridiculous.

Phams character ?

That right there is funny.....if that had been Tatis instead of Kim....Pham doesn't say a word....you have a problem with a teammate you take care of it in the locker room not the dugout....he is just damn lucky Kim didn't clock him. I'm sure he a is wonderful guy.but I've seen enough of him and heard enough of him in person to form my own opinion....he doesn't care about anybody but himself and the sooner he is wearing a different uniform won't be soon enough for me and besides.....going to Pacers for "DINNER" says more than enough about his character.

Yes his character. Maybe it's just because I've followed his career since before he was a Padre and learned a few things about him along the way, but I'm starting to get annoyed by a lot of the bs that's being directed his way from our fan base.

This is a guy who was born to a 17 year old mom and a 19 year old dad who was incarcerated when he was born and who he has no relationship with. A guy who had a rough childhood, but worked his ass off to get to where he's at. A guy who passed on going to college to help his mom out. A guy who paid to replace a broken pitching machine for his minor league team. A guy who has been involved with The Boys and Girls Club and other youth programs everywhere he's been. A guy who has come back from numerous injuries and dealt with a chronic eye condition to overcome the odds.

He's got an obvious chip on his shoulder and he seems like a pretty intense dude. I see way too many people misconstruing that to say he has a bad attitude. I've also seen some stuff directed at him that is pretty obviously racially biased (not saying that's the case with you).

Back to the actual incident, I don't think it was actually directed at anyone. I'm not sure Kim was even back in the dugout yet. The only person it looked like he might have been going at was Bobby Dickerson. I think it was more just frustration with the situation than it was with anyone involved though.

Obviously the Pacers situation wasn't a good look. The response to it has been ridiculous. Again not saying this is you, but I can't believe how many people immediately started hating on him after he got stabbed.

Anyway rant over. I just saw a ton of bs directed at Pham today and needed to vent a little bit. I genuinely think he's misunderstood by a large portion of our fan base. The struggles on the field coupled with the Pacers incident and his personality have made it easy to look at him in a negative light. I just think there's a bit more nuance to who he is as a man.

Sorry, what “Pacers situation”?

Sorry, what “Pacers situation”?

Last winter Pham went out for a late night dinner at an establishment named "Pacers" ... more known as a "gentleman's club". As he was leaving there was a large fight (apparently he was not part of what caused the fight) but got involved and was severely stabbed causing a major wound and significant rehab.

Nothing to suggest he was anything other than a bystander .... but the image of being at a strip club for dinner ad midnight has not sat well with some fans.
