Quote from WindsorUK on June 6, 2021, 7:32 amAre they using any kind of robotic pitch calling, at any level?
Surely the technology must exist?
And you're right, he got SO many calls! Machado's initial K wasn't anywhere near the strike zone. Hence, his next 2 AB's he HAD to go fishing and didn't even come close.
Belittle's the game.

Being “tested” in the low minors this year.
The technology exists and if it only has to be better than the live ups in being “correct” … it should be here soon. Note: there are now tennis tournaments that are using real time technology for line calls (no lines people).
I think part of the “testing” period has to do with how robo umps change the flow of the games if one strike zone is called consistently. How do they impact both the hitters / pitchers approach and the potential resultant offense. There are currently missed calls both ways. So, beyond the technical mechanics of the system … MLB probably will seek to define (re-define) the strike zone to attempt to ensure a balance of offense / defense.
Most can speculate … but a consistently called strike zone should benefit the hitters who don’t feel the need to chase bad balls in fear of the umps, in turn, forcing the pitchers to tighten their target and provide more hittable pitches. Also, may advantage pitchers with command over the wild hard throwers. Whatever, MLB needs to have an idea of the consequences before ML implementation.

Quote from JasonE135 on June 6, 2021, 1:48 pm2 innings and not a single changeup from Paddack today? He is very lucky that he was able to improve his curveball this year. It's actually working as a strikeout pitch on occasion today. I guess his best pitch just isn't working but I am pleased to see that he is still getting it done today. At least so far.
