Snell has a 10 pitch 1st inning …. Unheard of for Snell!
Maybe the 2.10 ERA at PETCO shows a comfort level.

Truthfully, I think Petco has saved Snell twice so far: two fly outs at the wall.

Sure but the corollary to that is that his road era is over 9.
Ugly on the road … simple just pitch him at PETCO and IL him for long road trips (or skip starts) since the Padres are edging towards a 6 man rotation.

My memory may be faulty but was Lucchesi’s profile great at PETCO and ugly on the road .. he is back at PETCO and looking good.

I know it's just one game but that is the Blake Snell we traded for, 7 innings 1 hit 1 BB 10 Ks only 101 pitches. He was locked in from the 1st pitch hitting 97 consistently and low pitch counts early in the game which enabled him to finnish 7 innings that we desperately needed. Now let's see it again

Agree that this is the Snell we hoped for. I would add even with this being the longest outing for the Padres (and most effective) he was still effective in the clutch for the 7th with a man on third and no outs … pitched out of it.
67 strikes out of the 101 pitches is one of his better control showings. Looked to me (no stats to back this) that Snell used his FB more and was just targeting mid-plate rather than edges. If I go by the catcher’s glove, Snell command was not perfect but the misses still were in the strike zone and his velocity / movement worked.
Never doubted is “stuff” but had to get his control together … did yesterday.

Musgrove vs. DeGrom tonight …. Should we expect dueling no-hitters? 15Ks per team?
(then again last night the ERA of Snell and Lucchesi would have suggested a hitting fest … wrong!)

Going to be a long night for Padres hitters tonight if the home plate ump keeps calling DeGroms 100 mph pitch a strike when it's 6 inches outside. I can't wait for robot umps so we can have a consistent strike zone. I have never seen so many pitches off the plate called a strike. I really think with the pitchers using grip substances and with the movement and velocity that the umps just can't follow the ball.
