Listened to Shildt’s pre-game. One thing that was clear … Shildt would prefer not to move players around in the line-up or in the field if they are doing well. Sort of goes with his pretty set line-up through the first 16 games of the season.

For today’s game just giving Bogaerts a rest (along with Campy) … nothing else.

So, if (when) a shuffle is warranted … it will be done with minimal upheaval to the overall lineup / defense.

Errors are an issue … worse since they seem to lead to a lot of unearned runs … critical runs.

Temper the overall view of the defense considering they are #4 in dWAR, #11 in DRS, and #4 in “range”.

Drilling down a bit on the errors … surprisingly the Padres’ two gold glove winners are the prime problem: Kim 4 errors (3 fielding / 1 throwing) and Tatis 3 errors (2 fielding / 1 throwing). Have to think that is self correcting considering the players’ histories

After them, sort of scattered errors among Bogaerts (2), Cronenworth, Wade (2), and Campusano. Then consider Croney’s was that faulty glove indecent and Wade will get replaced by Machado (hopefully) … should be OK.

Filter through all that and maybe we distill down to Kim? Hopefully the errors are just a aberration since his other defensive metrics remain well above average. Overall Kim is having a tough start to 2024 his walk year.

Have my concerns with Cosgrove.  RPs can be very erratic and there's something not right with Cosgrove; may be hiding a minor injury but he needs some time off IL or option to somewhere to get back on track.  Might be the right time with Morejon looking decent right now.  The way Shildt uses his RPs, going to have to get more fresh arms on the move between the minors and SD.

I assume GG winners don’t have to use one and maybe it was an off hand comment but someone suggested he wasn’t using his familiar Glove?
