I like for today

Tatis

Manny

Soto

Xander

Crone

Carpenter

Sullivan

Kim

Grish

I get the power at 4 argument.. BUT after the 1st the 4th hitter aint the 4th hitter no more... look at Grish at 9 and 1... he has had game winning situations.. bases loaded.. 2nd and 3rd (early innings and later) etc.. and hasn't delivered.. Tatis in these same situations and we would be 12-8 and not 9-11.. I want my best hitter up 1st.. like Rickey Henderson.. how many times did he start a game 1-0 with a HR... and/or cause havoc on the bases and thus made #2 >,#3> etc... Grish doesn't scare anyone, at the 2 he can't bunt Tatis over, cause why would u waste an out when Nando can just steal 2B 90+% of the time..BUT at #9 a single, a bunt single, a BB , xbh or a HR from Grish with Nando behind him and we are cooking.. Bottomline if Nando can get 100 more ABs over the course of the season that's like 30+ Runs created over the season..

I'm not saying Tatis should hit 4th....just that I'd "prefer" he hit 2nd or even 3rd.

The number of additional AB's from the #1 spot to the #3 spot I doubt will add up to more runs than the solo HR's turning into 2 or even 3 run shots.

Maybe it will....but there is a reason the best HR hitter on a team doesn't lead off in MLB....yes it isn't 1970 anymore...but I still think I'd prefer him hitting with guys on base more times in a season  than 2 extra AB's a week.

Doesn't matter....glad he's back and just hope he plays 130 games for us this year.

Schwarber lead the NL in HRs last season, and batted lead off for PHI for almost the entire season. So Tatis can do that this season for SD. Tatis could lead the league in HRs and SBs, maybe. Missing 20 games will hurt those chances, but it is Tatis.

Would add that the Angels alternate Ohtani and Trout between the #2 and #3 slots depending on the SP being LH or RH. Rendon generally is #4. Those are two pretty good power hitters not sitting at #4. However, they go with Ward leading off who is not a good hitter or base stealer ... so don't know the logic there.

Yankees go with Judge at #2 and Rizzo at #3 ... #4 now is Torres. Dodgers go with Freeman and Martinez at 2 and 3 but they have Betts leading off ... #4 Muncy (or others).

Looks as though the current thinking just pushes the better hitters (and power hitters) up in the batting order and sort of discount the #4 slot as a key.

Tatis

Soto

Machado

Bogaerts

Cronenworth

Carpenter

Kim

Grisham

Nola

.... Melvin has spoken

Yeah almost on my wavelength.. i did think Soto #2 with a RHP.. but was thinking maybe BoMel had him at 3 permanently.. also Crone ahead of Carp and Kim ahead of Grish in my wavelength.. I had Nola (or the C) ahead of Kim though not behind Grish and #9..

Well sure Tatis can still hit HR’s at leadoff.

But the Schwarber example is a good one because he led the league in HR’s with 46 but only had 94 RBI….good for 12th in the NL.

If he hit those same 46 HR’s in the 3 spot he probably has 100+ RBI….that could be the difference in 2-3 wins.

BTW…..Schwarber is now hitting 3rd for Philly.

Maybe this is why?

Or it could be that they have Turner who is a better lead off option.

Bogaerts just hit a bomb...trying to sneak a high fastball by him is like trying to sneak sunrise past a rooster...ain't gonna happen 😃
