Padres @ Cubs April 25-27
Quote from WindsorUK on April 27, 2023, 12:23 amAnyone else like to see Cronenworth bat 2nd?
Why not just flop he and Soto? Maybe shuffling Juan down the lineup takes some pressure off him( he must be pretty hard on himself at this point)?

Worth a shot with Croney hitting 2nd but not sure that hitting Soto 5th will take any pressure off him given a better chance he is coming up with men on base and would be expected to drive them in … more pressure?
The best thing for Soto would be to have Tatis and Machado get hot and lead the team to score … takes focus off Soto.
Less than 1 month in so don’t want to over manage and maybe do more damage to his psyche but at some point have to look at what he is producing and not what we want him to produce then insert him in a spot that maximizes that value for the good of the team. Bat him lead-off? He still gets on-base. Counter is that he may swing less (although his swing and miss seems to be getting worse) but maybe more concerned about the “misses” than how much he “swings”. Don’t think where he bats will alter his current issues much which seem to be between his ears for the past year.
A Soto-Tatis-Machado-Bogaerts-Cronenworth would at least split up two very cold hitters in Soto and Machado. But with everyone except Bogaerts not hitting now … like shuffling chairs on the deck of the Titanic.
Note going into yesterday’s game heard a stat that excluding Bogaerts the entire rest of the team was hitting a collective .199 … that is incredible on face value and more so when you look at their collective histories.

I may need to tune out for a bit for my own mental health.
How can this offense be this inept?
Worst batting average in all of MLB and it shows.
Lol Smyly was literally the hottest pitcher in baseball coming in with like 18 2/3 scoreless IP.. He was one fluke play away from a perfect game vs LAD last start... the game plan against him was almost perfect.. I say almost cause the 1 2 3 1st was super aggressive and our boys looked super bad.. But they began running the pitch count up every inning after that and got to him for 2 big runs and got him put of there early .. then 3 vs the BP for the Win... everyone had a good game minus Soto.. glad that BoMel PH for Nola..
I think when Campy comes back they should IL Nola for 10-15 days.. let Campy #1 and Sully #2.. get some games in.. and let Nola reset, he is off at the plate and I think the running vs him (worst in the MLB amongst C) is affecting his overall game.. a Reset of sorts will let him unwind a bit relax, truly heal and hopefully get him going
Feel sorry for Campusano (and the Padres) that just at the point when it looked as though he would start getting regular playing time (and was showing some life hitting) he gets this injury which has the feel of keeping him out for a lot longer than we initially thought … they really want to avoid further damage that would take him out of the mix for months. Given the alternative is Nola … he had a great chance to secure the #1 role and prove he has a future. Personally did not think he showed all that bad in his limited appearances. Upon his return, if Nola does not come out of his funk, he should step in the #1 role no matter how he performs.
In the interim, more time for Sullivan who has looked OK and a LHH even though has yet to get a hit but not getting blown away at the plate so maybe the hits will come. Don’t expect him to be a long term solution but in the moment with Nola as the alternative … deserves some increased playing time.
At 33, Nola’s future is more a back-up.

I like this lineup a lot .. vs RHP..
Maybe can do the same vs LHP with Kim leading off... and Soto and Manny flip flopping
LFGXD!

Quote from BoosterSD on April 27, 2023, 9:22 amTemperature should be close to 60 at game time, Lugo has been very consistent this season, so hopefully the bats will be a little warmer this game.
Get the win, take two of three, and have a more enjoyable flight to Mexico City.

Not really a fan of this line up. At least Soto is not batting 2nd. But since no one is really hitting right now, save Bogaerts, I guess shaking things up a little couldnt hurt.
Something has got to give soon, too many career excellent hitters are having BAD starts.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 27, 2023, 12:43 pmLugo induces three ground balls and every one of them finds a hole.
Instead of a 1-2-3 inning they add a run and still batting.....Ugh

Lugo got screwed on strike 3 to Hos.. and then he HR ..HR and sun ball.. unbelievably bad luck there...
Also with 6 hits and 5 BBs you would think we would have scored 6-8 runs.. especially with RISP all over the place .. 0-6 with RISP..cumulatively 16 LOB
Sometimes shit happens and Manny just missed a 3 run blast.. Tatis hit a Lazer that was caught at the wall..etc.. at least we seem to be hitting the ball and not SO..(only 5 today)

Quote from BoosterSD on April 27, 2023, 2:56 pmSD is averaging 3.67 runs per game, and that is with all the "studs" minus Bogaerts struggling mightily at the plate. Things have to turn around soon, I fully expected this offense to average about 5 runs per game.
And yes, some dumb luck on defense for SD today. Even with all the struggles and bad luck, we are still only one game under .500 and not a large deficit to overcome in the NL West standings.
Things could be worse!

We are also 13-11 in April.. with a chance to close out the month at 15-11.. with Joe (vs Sean) and Yu going on Sat and Sunday
As bad as we've been that's a bright spot
Also what's the runs per game if we take away the 6 shutouts?.. closer to that 5 you and I were expecting right?
