I'm not sure why but all 3 of these Cubs starters worry me.

They all seem the type that will pitch a 3 hit shutout against us......especially Smyly and Steele.

It looks like we caught a break. Bellinger went on the paternity list. He's looked like his old self in the early going.

Just read that Padres are 22-34 in games started by Snell?

When is he an FA? Does he have any value on the trade market? Is AJ banking on a few big wins in September/October?

Do we not have pitchers in our system that could provide that kind success, for a lot less money?

I just don't see the value of keeping Blake in SD. Whist I realize pitching is at a premium in MLB, 12 games below. 500 in only 56 games isn't premium( not even sure it's replacement level!), it's just bad.

Watching Juan Soto and Blake Snell is giving me anxiety

There’s a reason we extended Yu and Joe and not Blake

FA after his year and hopefully not resigned (although going to be a tough call on a QO depending how his season goes). No trade value given FA after this season and reasonable large contract to go with the poor performance.

Best the Padres can hope for is Snell follows his historical pattern and becomes an elite SP in the 2nd half (at last for 5-6 innings per game). It is not as though the Padres have more confidence in Wacha based on recent experience and Lugo will be on an innings limit … Weathers is still a full season question … Martinez?

Just hope he can at least tread water until mid-season … maybe that is a BIG hope.

Time to get on Soto’s case again.

1. Two men on … two outs … Soto takes a 3rd strike on the outside corner. For a GREAT HITTER with a GREAT knowledge of the strike zone … he should have been swinging if for nothing else to foul it off to LF. Not clutch and maybe why they don’t want him batting lower in the order.

2. It appears that HIS strike zone is smaller than MLB’s strike zone … and he truly believes he is right and those strikes on the corners (lighting up as strikes on the K box) don’t apply to him. He is off to 1B without waiting for the call (on legit strikes) and seems always shocked when called back.

Four years of great success in WASH where he was hailed as having one of the best knowledge of the strike zone in baseball maybe just locked him into believing that … wrongly. Not sure how to adjust that and get him to swing on those corner pitches. Add that when he does swing his K% is up.

As you can tell, I am frustrated with the $23MM superstar.

I think we all are….hoping Manny snaps out of it soon also…..he’s here a loooong time

We’re hovering at .500 with basically nothing from Soto-Machado-Tatis this season.

Add them all together they don’t even come close to adding up to JUST Pete Alonso!

Obviously it’s just a slump for all at the same time……it will end but dang, when?
