This might sound strange but of all the players traded at the deadline I will miss France the most. He doesn't have the most upside but I think he will be a solid major leaguer.

Me too ... given how the other parts have been moved around ... he could have been a very effective DH for the Padres for years and provided back-up at 3B/1B as needed.

Bad base running, sloppy pitching, and lazy catching by Nola. This is not what championship baseball looks like. This is what knocked out in the first round looks like.

Should have been an easy win with Clevinger on the mound, now, lucky to come back and win.

It is the bad base running that is the most frustrating .... being "aggressive" at the wrong time is just not smart baseball ... especially when you make an out.

Patino / Altavilla not set up to be important playoff pieces accept the growing pains. When I saw the replay on the Nola miss ... he basically did what he should have to block a ball in the dirt, glove was down and centered but the ball just squeezed between the glove and his knee ... not a lazy play.

One BIG kudo goes to Grisham on covering the rundown play by coming in from CF to make the play at 2B. In the "olden days" that was always taught to OF to come in for plays like that ... in the current era it almost never happens. Hard enough to get most OF to back up the other outfielders.

Have to admit I was not expecting much for Grisham defensively since all the scouting said he at best a LF but he has greatly exceeded his scouting reports ... think he leads qualified ML CF in defensive rankings and add seems to really have his head in the game all the time.

A real steal for Preller to get that quality of a CF ... defense and offense.

Just because he went through the motions of the correct mechanics, doesnt mean it wasnt lazy. I still will call it lazy.

Bases loaded, 3 runs down in the 9th inning. Slam Diego?

Not today, but good to see Jr. get two hits and both Hosmer and Pham hit the ball hard.  There will be a tomorrow!  Too bad Clevinger couldn't go, otherwise it might have been today.

Patino is just not ready. His command is terrible.

His slider is also down 4 mph from normal. He is just off right now. He is going to need more time in the minors next year.

Agree ... remember he still is only 20 and only pitched 7.2 innings in AA in 2019. A lot of development is still needed but the stuff is there. Not sure why the Padres even added him to the roster in 2020 except for the fact that the love to challenge their better prospects to accelerate the development cycle. Has not hurt the season ... so maybe a good thing for the long run.

I know. He is young. He is trying too hard. I just watched his pitching in the futures game last year. His delivery was quick and decisive. This year it looks like he is opening up early and trying to "power" his FB and "break" his slider instead of just letting them fly and do what they do. That is why his slider is slower and doesn't break as sharply and why he cannot command his fastball. At least his changeup has become a regularly usable pitch.

He will recover. He just needs to get back to the way he was doing things in the minors. Perhaps next year when he has a lot more games and less pressure.

I GUESS the Pads might have felt "compelled" to go with Patino in that start with 50 pitches to give, but I don't understand why.  Had Morejon there who could have done the same thing, then Perdomo.  Could have recalled Patino today for Perdomo... now  Perdomo AND Patino AND Morejon can't go today (not too big a deal), and Perdomo can't return before playoffs.

EXTREMELY questionable to recall Patino in that spot with all the other RP's hoping to work in & look at.  The only silver lining (I hope) is that Patino has conclusively proved that he is NOT ready this year to be on a playoff roster as a RP.... hardly his fault.  The talk from Tingler etc that they might is annoying, let's put it to bed.  I get we may be locked into a playoff seeding soon, so "no harm done" letting him pitch, but there's too many others who could at least be serious depth considerations.

Honestly I'm not even thrilled with how Morejon's innnings have been limited heading into presumably a 162 game season next year.  But especially unhappy with what this year does to Patino's development as a SP.  Worst player handling this year.  I took Preller, etc at their word that Patino was "lighting up" the Alt site & was ready to contribute this year as a RP.  It made sense with his stuff & pitch mix.  But very quickly it became evident he's not ready; especially when staff already had another green brand new RP in Guerra.  The stuff flashes, but the command or making in -game adjustments aren't there.

Glad he's gotten the MLB experience of 1st appearance & now 1st start out of the way.  But Patino on a 3 game series playoff roster at this point in his career, the downside risk is way higher than the upside.

Austin Adams is going to be activated today. Another electric arm in a bullpen that's thriving.

Off the 45 IL ... maybe that explains the issue with Almonte I questioned on the other forum.
Don't know who was sent to the alternate site.

Mike Clevinger is scheduled to throw a bullpen tomorrow, which, if that goes well, would line him up for a Wednesday start. Zach Davies will start Tuesday.
