Padres at (???) Seattle

Agree on Pham. He's been out a full month. This is the logical re-start with bonus of 2 LH SP.
But think they hold off on Hosmer b/c of the 2 LH SP. He's only been out the minimum IL 10 days ON 9/18... with a broken finger. With Mejia C, Nola 1B first 2 games anyway to play matchups... I'd wait one more series, which gives him another 4 days to heal, but still 6 regular season games to play & get back in groove before playoffs.

Quote from Randy Manese on September 17, 2020, 6:06 pmGoing to be strange to be the visiting team in your home park, but good for the guys since they don't have to travel. Looking forward to getting back on the winning track this week and officially clinching that playoff spot. Seattle has been very feisty after the trade deadline, thanks primarily to France and Torrens, but their overall pitching still is weak. I think we find our mojo starting tomorrow. Go Padres!

Quote from Randy Manese on September 18, 2020, 4:09 pmSurprised Pham apparently not activated for this game and also that Mejia is not in the line-up. Being extra-cautious? I'd like to see us get an a few runs early for Paddack and get closer to clinching that play-off spot today!

Possibly Pham is not quite as ready as we think ... and an extra day or two of recovery minimizes any chance of re-injury. 6-7 games of AB still should get him in sync ... being in SD he can still get swings at the alternate site.
Also, may not hurt to get Ona more ML ABs ... just in case.
Mejia is probably in the same boat as Pham ... can swing RH if needed but why push it.

Acee was not really confident either Pham or Hosmer would be activated to day but seemed reasonable sure we will see them by Sunday (could be Saturday unless it is Tuesday). Let us just say he hedged quite a bit.

Quote from fenn68 on September 18, 2020, 5:48 pmThe Padres have reinstated outfielder Tommy Pham from the injured list and optioned right-hander Jorge Ona to their alternate site, the team announced. Pham will be the Padres’ designated hitter Friday.
Took that to the last second!

Quote from MrPadre19 on September 18, 2020, 7:08 pmEven when Pham isn’t hitting he’s getting on base and he’s making the pitcher work.
Both positives.
They did say he had 3 hits and 2 HR’s earlier today at USD.

Quote from MrPadre19 on September 18, 2020, 7:33 pmWhat was Machado thinking?
Not going to third on the passed ball Grisham scored on just cost us a run.
Not sure what he was watching there?

Quote from MrPadre19 on September 18, 2020, 7:56 pmThis is agony watching El Niño struggle so bad.
All that really matters is winning the game and that he breaks out of it by the playoffs.....but I “really” wanted him to get the MVP and now he’s got no chance.
His struggles have even put him behind a couple of his own team mates.
