Why aren't they using Quantrill?

He has 1 appearance for 1.1 ip.

I would prefer using him in the 5th or 6th and let him go two or three innings in some cases.

Please tell me they aren't only going to use him to follow Lucchesi.

I wondered about that too. Even if he is just coming in for Lucchesi every 5th game ... and for a “short stint” ... would think he would be available  in games 1-3 in some capacity and just be off for game 4.

Did hear a suggestion that Quantrill may get some of those starts instead of Lucchesi ... maybe due the opponent, the park, and how Lucchesi is doing. Maybe that factors in.

Side: Yates has not pitched since Sunday .... long time off without even a token tune up appearance after getting shelled. Could there be a bigger issue?

Hopefully Yates comes in tonight with a 3 run lead in the 9th!

I must say I disagree with the Padre's usage of Quantrill. He has repeatedly outpitched Lucchesi when they were supposedly "in competition" for the #5 spot, yet he repeatedly finds himself in the bullpen.

The man has talent. He gets outs, he doesn't give up a lot of runs. I find it ridiculous that our relievers will be giving up runs on a conveyor belt and he sits on the bench picking his nuts.

Brian, you're right 5-2!   Eating all those free jumbo jacks must have messed with my mind!  Go Padres!

We won 2 of 3 games in SF early in the season, but the Giants are much better than they were in July.  We play them 7 times in the final 15 games and how we do against them will probably determine if they get into the playoffs and how we would fare if they do get in and play against us.  Their line-up is strong, so we need to get to their pitching, both starting and bullpen if we want to come out on top in the majority of these games.  They have a lot of momentum coming into PETCO, so it will be up to Paddack and Richards to slow them down before we turn it over to Lamet and Clevinger.
