Can’t turn it off in a game like this....😴
Edit:but that 8th inning ending DP just now sure helps!

Quote from Randy Manese on July 28, 2020, 11:23 pmIt was a win, but my thoughts about Pham and Machado came to fruition as both looked sluggish in the field and at the plate. Davies deserved better. Just as in the Dodger series, the Giants didn't hit the ball hard but blooped their way to enough runs to make it interesting. Naylor looked horrible - again; he needs to be sent down and to regroup. Strahm left that one pitch too much over the plate otherwise would have gotten out of the inning with only 1 run scored.
Guerra looked good; Pagan settled in after a shaky first batter or so and Pomeranz was lights out. With Cueto going tomorrow, I'd take Pham out of the line-up (at least off the field) and possibly put Profar in left. I'd go with Garcia at 2nd and Hedges behind the plate because it might be a very tight game. If we can get a strong 6 from Paddack and grab a lead, we can then bring in Perdomo, Stammen and Yates to close out the game and win the series.
Padres strayed from their approach a little tonight, but need to get back to that against Cueto, who can be very tough.
It's a win and the sum of the parts were better than some individual efforts (or lack thereof) tonight.

Quote from Brian Connelly on July 28, 2020, 11:46 pmI only got to see a few innings incl Myers HR...
any speculation as to why Pomeranz got the call over Yates? LH heavy lineup. He sure has been nails so far.
HUGE to win the 1st game with the #5's going. Puts us in good spot to win the series.
Randy, I agree with your observations on Pham; extremely limited "get ready" time in both ST & Summer camp... I'd like to see him DH a day soon with Naylor in LF vs a RHP.

Quote from Randy Manese on July 29, 2020, 12:32 amIn the postgame show, Tingler said Yates was fine but wanted to give him at least another day to recover from that long outing (25 pitches?) on Sunday. Tingler also said he'd like to get Bednar in a game, but unless we have a large lead tomorrow that might not happen. Naylor has been disappointing and I don't know why - he's a much better hitter and player than he has shown so far. I hope the Sheriff is on tomorrow! It should be a great game to watch.

Quote from WindsorUK on July 29, 2020, 12:55 amPham DOES NOT look good in LF!
Isn't LF Myers best position? Why not give him a two week run out there with Olivares in RF( his best position) and Pham as DH?
Naylor not looking right so far. Can't imagine he'll be retained when the roster shrinks.
Loving Guerra!
Imagine how good we'll be if ( ever?) Manny plays like a $30 million player???

Quote from Brian Connelly on July 29, 2020, 7:53 amI know the season is "already" 1/12 over 🙂 but you're judging Pham on 5 games... Naylor on literally 5 AB!?!?
I will agree that: 1) All the missed time in ST & Summer Camp did negatively affect Pham. But he would have been even less ready to go for a "regular" season if Covid hadn't happened. The cumulative effect of the patience of Pham, Profar, & Grisham is very obviously benefitting the entire lineup, even though 1st 2 aren't really rolling yet. Pham does need some off field DH days, but they're not yanking him off the field for 2 weeks. 2) Mateo's RH bat will eventually take Cronenworth's (LH) place. He & Garcia (& Mejia) are out of options, so the obvious candidates (assuming fully healthy team) at the first cut are: Bednar and either Naylor or France. Everyone loves Ty, but not sure 3 singles in 10 AB the compelling "keeper" case. Long view: DH is going to face more RHP than LHP; that & bench comp favors Naylor....
I'm playing devil's advocate; if he doesn't perform soon, season is too short to sit & wait for Naylor. But give the guy a chance to fail & prove it's warranted! I'd run him back out at DH (NO issue with PH France vs the LHP last night; trying to win NOW) or LF today. Looks like getaway day probably a LH SP.

Too risky defensively vs good P?
