Opening Day Lineup

PreviousPage 9 of 13Next

Well someone has to earn the 5th SP slot .... Padres are not just giving it away.

Today .... NO to Allen ... NO to Quantrill ... NO to Mitchell.

New game plan to start the season ... 5th spot in the rotation goes to a "bullpen day" (so they carry 9 RP) and every 5th day work through Mitchell - Erlin - Warren - et. al.

Meanwhile in the minors Allen - Quantrill - et. al work to EARN a ML shot. Side benefit looks as though they are positioned to get an extra control year on both if that matters.

Preller may be on the phone trying to pry a serviceable veteran of some other roster.

I kind of like the bullpen game for a few starts since we will have an easier time filling out 9 RP instaed of 5 starters. Give Allen and Quantrill a few AAA starts and call up who is doing best and the other will be on call

It would be about a 8-9 WAR swing adding Kluber, Bauer vs. our current #5 options... just saying.

... obviously we'd have to give up some WAR to get one, but man!   HAVE to do something!

Well if Quantrill can actually make it through an inning... yikes!  Pressure might've gotten to young Logan Allen?  It probably makes sense to give him 1st look based on age over Logan Allen.

... well, guess I shouldn't have said THAT... concerning double choke job there.

Tatis has made the Team!

Could this be the guy who makes the OD roster and goes down 2-3 days in when a RP is needed?

No.

He could go down if he starts struggling....but they won’t already have it planned.

Urias will begin the season in AAA.

The Padres have claimed outfielder Socrates Brito off waivers from the Diamondbacks, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic (Twitter link). Brito will join an already crowed outfield mix with the San Diego organization

============

Something else coming since Brito is out of minor league options? He is 26 and a LHH with little ML experience and more a corner OF. Does that mean Cordero is to the minors?

Also with Tatis having to be added to the 40 man and now Brito ... 2 moves just for roster space (likely Jankowski and Nix to 60 day DL).

Next 24 hours may. have some surprises!

Could this also have something to do with not letting him go back to the D Backs?

Maybe a little?

They DFA'd Brito than the very next game Souza is lost for the season.

Now to add insult to injury...a Division rival claims him.

Gotta love it!
