Phillies trade for Realmuto

https://www.mlb.com/news/jt-realmuto-phillies-marlins-trade/c-303642694?tid=282421090

Thank goodness Realmuto is off the market. That's the end of that nonsense of trading multiple high prospects for 2 years of a catcher that doesn't solve a real problem area. I would rather take my chances with Mejia and Allen when we are ready to compete. Also just roll with the kid pitchers and se what we have. I would like to see Moose for 2 years since it's a major weakness. With the soon to be DH coming it will make it easier for Reyes  or Naylor to have a position. Stick to the plan AJ

Agree 100%

I think Moose would be a great solution at 3B for  a couple years and roll with the young pitchers and see where it takes us.

Sometimes less is more and Moose would be more for less and it wouldn't slash and burn the pipeline of the "Hot Lava Talent" 🙂

Pretty sure AJ was out on Realmuto once he couldn’t extend him first.

He thinks the same as we do......two years, even of the best Catcher in baseball, wasn’t enough to give up top prospects for.

I still think the Fish are going to end up with a light hitting Catcher(Alfaro) and a Seat-up man/Closer (Sanchez)

which isn’t enough.

Will Stewart May end up the best of the 3 in my opinion.

Now Realmuto will end up signing an extension with the Phils.

I wouldn't mind MARWIN (FA) and STROMAN (trade).... With or without Harper... I don't even want to entertain Machado if he doesn't want to play out West.. Why force the issue by giving him more $$ and then having a Kemp 2.0 situation...  I like MARWIN position versatility > Moose.. And how the former can be a Super utility player down the road as Tatis Jr and others come up or are signed... Stroman I think has #2 type bounce back in SD and is a perfect buy low SP candidate... With Harper AWESOME off-season.. Without Harper still a Solid off-season with theae 2 ads..

Hard to tell how interested Preller was in dealing for Realmuto (with or without and extension) .... maybe more if the price was low enough (and getting a bargain) but not pushing the envelope high. One thought about Preller's involvement with Realmuto (and other trade "interest") is that Preller is often interested in what the other teams think of the Padres players / prospects based on the other teams "interest" in them ... sort of getting a better sense of player value from outside sources.

Can't call Stroman a buy low candidate .... TOR is either going to a a great price for him or they will play for the bounce back ... they are not going anywhere in 2019 so they can just hold. They don't have money issues to trigger a force sale.

I like Marwin Gonzalez ... maybe not as much as some ... but do expect him to sign with a contender (best bet return to HOUSTON where they love him) and a pretty high price tag.

Im going to call the rumor activity that we have seen this winter Preller doing his due diligence and seeing if he could snag a good new toy without paying the top dollar. Im afraid that this is pretty much the team we are going to see in camp, with the exception of maybe a Gio Gonzalez type SP. I think Preller is going to see what he has in France, and the young SPs and wait for Tatis and Urias to come into their own. Give Renfroe, Reyes, and Cordero another year of health and see how they perform and next winter is when we see some BIG moves based on the evaluation of 2019.

Lets hope for Rendon and Gerritt Cole next winter!

Yep, don't see a BIG move at this late date .. either FA or trade. Still might see (at least how I view it) a MEDIUM move (e.g. Moustakas or Gonzalez short term low cost) and one or two bottom feeding FA signings on 1 year or minor league deals ... a lot of those types still sitting.

Still not sure what they will do in the corner OF ... Myers will play everyday so how to best employ (and develop) Renfroe / Reyes / Cordero? Cordero to AAA should be an easy call. However, platooning Renfroe / Reyes does not help their development that much ... Reyes to me has shown too much to go to AAA ... and there is still an OF glut since they likely need 2 CF options on the 25 man (Margot / Jankowski) ... keeping both would only leave 1 reserve INF which would be a high risk move.

Since most have minor league options ... maybe just a yo-yo game with the OF (other than Myers) ... of course a ST injury may delay any decision ... the maybe Preller does have to work a minor deal for one of them (don't expect a great return). Will be interesting to see which way this goes.

Simply because of the knee injury, I can see Reyes starting the year in AAA. Then hope somebody early in the season needs a Renfroe type bat due to injury and we make a trade.
