Forgot about Vosler.....if all else fails let's just see what he's got.

Woof! having Vosler at 3B would the sign that ML baseball in SD is over.

He is at best AAA filler ... Padres got him for the legendary Rowan Wick and in his Cubs minor league career never made their top 30 in a less than elite farm system depth wise. Another sub-.200 ML hitter with poor defense and power if he ever makes contact.

I know the current opinion is with the signing of Kinsler the Padres will start Kinsler (2B) - Urias (SS) - a body (3B).

Did hear some commentary about the SS market with Galvis - Hecharriva - Iglesias - Escobar being versions of the same guy (all field no hit) and few clubs in the market for that kind of SS. The thought being that with supply well exceeding demand the few clubs interested just wait it out to the last minute (don't care which they sign) and get one on a low cost / one year deal.

COULD Preller shift our thinking ... wait this out ... and pluck one of these SS to fill until Tatis arrives with Urias to 3B (or to 2B with Kinsler to 3B). The same discussion suggested the two best FA 3B are Moose (always an option) and ... wait for it .... Headley. Might make the SS idea have merit.

Tulo is still the wild card (PITT seems to be the favorite since they can give him the SS role for the season) but what appears to be the concern from clubs is although he seems healthy NOW ... given his record ... can he stay heathy for the season ... the $550K is not an issue but the cost of a 25 man / 40 man roster slot might be for a guy that might only last a couple of months.

OBP and power was always decent in the minors...not sure he would be any worse than Villanueva.

I'm assuming Preller saw something in him...no matter what it cost to acquire him.

If we don't acquire a legit 3b for the next two seasons I would guess we're gonna roll with what we got...which I'm thinking could include this kid.I mean...our options at this point are France and Garcia.

Then again if we don't trade any of our corner outfielders I'm thinking we should just play Myers at 3b and be done with it.

The Astros just lost one of their relievers for 6-8 months...Joe Smith with an Achilles.

Any interest in trying to trade them one of ours for Aledmys Diaz?

They just acquired him for a Reliever...so apparently that's already his established worth.

Kinsler is officially on the 40 man today.

DFA'd in a bit of a surprise is Clayton Richard. IF he clears waivers (he will) the Padres will owe him the $3MM for 2019.

I would not be surprised if the re-signed him on a MiL deal with an invite to ST or even bring him back as a minor league coach or a front office guy .. they really do like him.

That is a surprise.

I woulda thought for sure it would be Pirela.

I guess the uncertainty on the infield to start the season is preserving his job for now.

I am beginning to think Myers at 3B is not all that bad as an option given the alternatives.

Tucked in some of the comments surrounding the final Kinsler signing was the suggestion that the Padres want Urias at 2B and may begin 2019 with him at 2B and Kinsler at 3B .... implying the get a filler SS until Tatis arrives. Sort of what I was suggesting a couple of post back.

If Preller can't move a corner OF (at his price) ... Padres may be better off with Renfroe - Reyes in the corners and Myers at 3B ... at least offensively .... and just wait for a trade deadline opportunity.

Yes .... not expensive(league minimum / 4 years control) but has hitting skills and has played both SS and 3B ... albeit not good defensively. Might be a good filler until Tatis arrives and then settle on the INF bench with Garcia giving them a RHH and a LHH INF reserve each with experience at SS/3B (I am assuming Kinsler assumes the 3B spot).

Not sure the need in Houston for a Diaz (although don't know their back-up SS situation) but a lot of need for RP. Maybe a bigger deal could be in play since Houston is also seeking another bat (with some versatility) to mix with Brantly and White in LF and for 1B/DH. Looks at big time Cruz but might go lower cost and spend on another SP and even more RP.

Padres officials Pete DeYoung, Preston Mattingly and hitting coach Johnny Washington were spotted at Troy Tulowitzki's open workout on Tuesday.
