Quote from Randy Manese on December 12, 2023, 3:40 pm113M over 6 years is a very high price to pay for Lee - I can see why Preller would move on. Let's go get some pitchers!

Quote from sportwarrior on December 12, 2023, 3:42 pm6/113. Wow.
But also, I'm pissed. What the fuck are we doing trading Grish without something lined up to replace him? Is there any chance we replace him with anything good enough to justify Grish's subtraction from the clubhouse?

Welcome Marsee … ROY 2024.
Both Taylor and Baden are still FA available for a lot less than Lee and for less time.
Kim to CF and Merrill makes he team?
Trade to get back Ruiz from OAK and put some real speed at the top of the line-up?

More than double the total contract most initially expected and an additional year …plus SF has to pay a pretty big posting fee to Lee’s former club.
Still maybe 1/3 of what Bellinger is asking in this market?
———————
Clearly, baring a bad season, have to expect Kim to be at least in that same range as a FA (maybe more since he is ML proven … and still young).
Back to an earlier thought … are the Padres in another Soto scenario with one year control and not likely signing him next winter at that level? Has a trade of Kim just been bumped higher up the alternative plan list? That match with MIA is beginning to look as something to work on.
Either Bogaerts stays at SS, Cronenworth returns to his primary position at 2B and sign a short term, lower cost FA … OR … take the giant step of Merrill to SS, Bogaerts to 2B, and keep Croney at 1B?
SF need a SS?

Quote from WindsorUK on December 12, 2023, 4:13 pmOuch!
OF looking REALLY thin at the moment.
Kim to CF? Marsee? Merrill in LF? Profar?
Then who's on 1B( not quoting Abbott and Costello!)? Who is DH'ing?
Got A LOT of holes to fill.
Maybe 1 SP and at least 1 bat? I'm still liking Sanchez as back up C and DH ( can package Kyle off in a deal somewhere)

As much as trading Kim would hurt, if they don't have any place for him, agreed that we should see what market is there?

With another 18.8m in posting fees. I thought his market was going to push past the predictions. I didn't think it would get that high. That's essentially paying him like he's going to be Brandon Nimmo like from the jump. I like Lee a lot, but I would be nervous commiting that much to a guy coming out of the KBO regardless of his pedigree.
I always thought AJ would do most of his work on the trade market. I still think that'll be the case. It should be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 12, 2023, 5:15 pmTrade for Arozarena for LF and sign Bader or Kiermaeier for CF.
Or,sign Pham or Profar for LF and trade for a CF.
Would love to have Esteury Ruiz back but see no reason Oak(Las Vegas)would trade him.
Merrill to LF Marsee to CF and spend on pitching?

Quote from BoosterSD on December 12, 2023, 5:58 pmA cheap, good option for a bounce back 1B candidate just signed with PIT. Tellez, one year deal, $3.2M with an additional $800k in incentives.
I thought this might be a good option for SD 1B or DH.
Do something Preller, all you have done so far is make the team worse. And it appears as of now, we are battling COL for last place in the division.
