Report is that Lugo is signing a 3 year / $45MM guaranteed contract.

Again, a FA signing a bigger deal than most projected. He should be sending a thank you note to the Padres for taking the risk in 2023 of converting him to a SP.

Actually, MLBTR predicted 3 at $42M, so only $1M per season off. And to be honest, with the savings we just got, not sure why SD didnt bring him back at that price.

Hopefully a better option will known soon.

Wonder if there is any thought of Cronenworth in LF if they see better FA options at their price who are 1B/DH types.

Usually in this era, 1B/DH are more available at lower price points that similar offensive LF.

I think the better option would be Kim to CF. I think putting Crone in LF would equivalate to the same bat production pressure moving him to 1B created. Kim's bat is better aligned with CF, production wise.

Plus, LF is easier to find than CF.

My only guess is AJ's plan is to trade for arms, like the King/Thorpe deal, for guys with 1-2 years control....so not too costly and won't logjam our SP prospects. Not that you can have too many but we don't want/need to spend the $ on 4-5 year deals for SP's IMO.

Especially now after the Soto trade.

I'm more curious who's our LF'er and DH on Opening day.

I guess Soler will be too expensive?

What does everyone think is the max AJ will pay for Lee?

A deal for Lee could massively affect any chance of an extension for Kim.

Anything over 5/$60 for Lee may be too much....and my guess is someone will give it to him....or more.

Teams may be shying away from Bellingers' ask and that may be driving Lee's cost up.

Why exactly would we extend Kim in the first place???

I get that he is a fan favorite, but face it, we are stuck with Bogaerts and Crone long term contracts. Still need to find a home for our 2nd best prospect (the one nobody wants to trade), he is a SS. We are signing the best SS prospect this January. Machado and Tatis can still play SS easily, and Crone could still play SS.

I mean, how many SS do we need???

We need a LHH power option for 1B, LF, and DH. We dont need another expensive RHH INF!!!!

I'm not saying we should....but if we're seriously after Lee and he wants to come to SD because of Kim it just kinda seems logical that we would....and Kim is a GG infielder wherever he plays.

I still believe Bogaerts does not remain at SS very long and I don't think we would move Crone there full time.

DeVries is 4 years away at best...

Who knows what the plan is with AJ involved.......was just thinking out loud.

I think this is the biggest problem, not even Preller knows what his plan is?

I don't know....more like he has so many plans they can't all come together.

Plan A followed by Plans B-Z

Probably working no less than 5-6 trades while also talking to free agents.

Hard to work on plan C until after Plan B falls though.

Plan A obviously already happened...thinking Plan B is Lee but if his number is up around $85-$90 mil he may be moving on.
