Only medicals and minor details to go on Juan Soto trade talks with the Padres and Yankees. The principles are telling folks they expect the deal done fairly soon. Once done, NYY will also get Trent Grisham in deal to back up their revamped starting OF of Soto, Judge and Verdugo.

Things are already percolating with Korean CF Jung Hoo Lee. Padres are a possible landing spot, especially if they complete Soto trade to Yankees as exoected. There are others.

I like his grit and the way he plays ball. Its not really his fault that they offered him that contract, and then played him in a position that his bat does not really fit.
If he stayed at 2B no one would have issues with him.
Like to keep him myself.
IF we aren't going to extend Kim I'd rather trade Kim and leave Crone at 2B..not that I want to lose Kim but....
The big thing with Kim is he is a fan favorite. Plays the game the right way, leaves it all on the field, and is just a gritty player. Not to mention really fantastic with the glove especially at SS. Couple that with another improved season at the plate, you can understand why the fans love him.
Once again, the bizarre signing of Bogaerts is biting SD in the ass.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2023, 1:08 pmDoes anyone think that SD is still contemplating a position change for Kim? With it appearing as Grisham is included in the NYY trade, could Kim be an option in CF or LF. That would let Bogaerts stay at SS at least one more season, and if not traded, Crone back to 2B his best position.
Then, even if they still chase Lee, could he not play LF? An OF of Lee, Kim, and Tatis should really be able to go get the ball.
Or if Lee's best position is truly CF, Kim in LF. Would have Azocar as a RHH platoon, 4th OF. And then could sign Profar, and Profar could split time between LF and 1B.

Quote from fenn68 on December 6, 2023, 1:11 pmPreller is usually pretty flexible if they can get one certain target player he just moves on to the next best option for building a team … not necessarily at the same position.
So, if moving Soto and Grisham for payroll space was the first objective he may not be locked into follow-up moves and doesn’t care … just moves forward.
Now for me, hard to believe that Preller does not have a lock on Lee … no idea on a second OF since can’t bet on Marsee and Pauley being productive to start 2024 … yet would not be surprised if Preller has no one lined up yet. Profar at a couple million might be a filler.

Quote from fenn68 on December 6, 2023, 1:19 pmHeard that … at this point … we will see Kim starting the season at 3B as a lot of concern remains on Machado playing in the field post elbow surgery. Machado DH. Don’t know for how long.
Don’t know how that plays with trading Cronenworth unless they see Merrill ready to step in the INF.
A just does not seem to fit with B unless some other moving part we have no idea on.

As I have stated in the past; even if he is just a bench/role player, Profar needs to be on the team next season. I think he just brings something to the clubhouse that this group of players reacts well to, and I still dont think it was a coincidence that the September winning streak when rejoined the team.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2023, 1:34 pmIf the trade package is correct in King, Brito, Vasquez, Higashioka, and Thorpe. Then SD got 3 ML ready SPs and a backup C for the same money as what Grisham would have made this season. Plus, they got NYY #5 prospect who could be ready by mid season or 2025 at the latest. And saved $33M in the process.
Thats a pretty good day.

Quote from sportwarrior on December 6, 2023, 1:39 pmI was holding out the unrealistic hope that we'd get Dominguez thrown in there, but whatever. This is about as good as we could ask for, I guess.
A little bummed that this probably spells the end for Sanchez, but oh well. Hopefully now we can look to achieve more balance across the lineup with an upgrade in CF, a gritty option in LF, and a true DH/1B.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2023, 1:44 pmIf we end up keeping Crone, why not just leave Machado at DH all season while we have Kim?
He batted better as the DH last season, Kim is just fine defensively at 3B. Bogaerts is happy because he stays at SS, and Crone returns to his best position, 2B.
Just need a CF, LF, and a 1B at that time.
