OFFSEASON 2023-24
Quote from fenn68 on December 6, 2023, 11:39 amIn the AAA Padres pick a AAA 2B, Clay Dungan, probably just to fill out the EP roster as a 27 year old. Don’t have to give back picks in a minor league phase.

Personally, I think is a great move for Grisham. I see him doing really well in NYY Stadium and the smaller ballparks of the AL East.
My bet is starts at least 100 games for the Yanks in CF.

Quote from Randy Manese on December 6, 2023, 12:09 pmYankee tried very hard to get the Padres to back off of King, but Padres held out for a much better pitcher (King) than Schmidt. Looks like Preller did well with this trade given he had to pare payroll and get a solid #3, possibly a #2, in the rotation. Rest of the package, to me, is gravy and allows Preller to make his other moves. He's got a lot more payroll to play with now and if he moves Cronenworth, that further opens up the possibilities like sign Lee, extend Kim, etc.

Coupled with that the rumor that Kyle Higashioka (33) backup catcher would come to the Padres … all defense no hit … 1 year control at about $2.3MM.
If so, they must be locking in on Campusano as the lead catcher coupled with the reported $6-8MM for Sanchez is not workable so net save on Grisham v Higashioka plus avoiding a big chunk for Sanchez.
If they succeed in moving Cronenworth for a league minimum type … maybe Preller still does have a plan for a high cost FA (other than Lee). Pitcher? LF? DH?

Also in the minor league phase the Padres took LHP Omar Cruz (24) who was a Padre farmhand traded to PITT a while back in the Musgrove deal.
Padres lost no players.

I'm beginning to disassociate the word "plan" with anything Preller does, but yeah, if we can move the kid we literally just signed to an unnecessary extension, we can redeploy the money in some other short-sighted way.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2023, 12:33 pmI'll be honest, should they trade Crone I will be a little bummed. I like his grit and the way he plays ball. Its not really his fault that they offered him that contract, and then played him in a position that his bat does not really fit.

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 6, 2023, 12:37 pmIf we trade Soto and Grisham AJ must have some real plans for outfielders.
Must think has a real shot at Lee...then another trade.
I don't see Marsee or any other prospect ready to start '24....so

If he stayed at 2B no one would have issues with him.
Like to keep him myself.
IF we aren't going to extend Kim I'd rather trade Kim and leave Crone at 2B..not that I want to lose Kim but....
