Quote from MrPadre19 on December 13, 2019, 3:29 pmI’m gonna go put on a limb and say Cory Dickerson is asking for too many years and/or too many millions?
I think we all thought he was a no brainer as at least an option to solve our corner outfield RH pitching issue.
Yet not a word about us even interested at any price?
There is something about this guy?
He is a very above average player both offensively and defensively yet teams have let him go and/or traded him for what seems like pennies on the dollar.....and here he is a free agent and I haven’t heard a word about “anyone” being interested....let alone the Padres who have a need for exactly his type of player.
Just seems we are missing something that every team knows?

Had the same thoughts. MLBTradeRumors projected him $14MM/2 years ($7MM AAV) and that seemed reasonable for a competent veteran who can hit.
Maybe something about him but just could be that no teams are interested in that level of commitment to a corner OF ... not just him. Nice to have but not a priority.
At some point he will be taking the Moustakas route and succumb to a 1 year deal at much less than $7MM just to play.
Padres would probably have to do some more OF housecleaning to make room with Pham, Myers, Margot .. RHH ... and Grisham, Cordero, Naylor ... LHH ... and a full 40 man roster.

Quote from JasonE135 on December 13, 2019, 4:13 pmWe have no place for him to play now. Pham is restricted to LF, especially now that his throwing arm is in recovery. I have no idea why he is not drawing big time interest. I think a lot of teams are going to regret not grabbing him. If wife-beaters can get jobs how can Dickerson not? What can be so terrible?

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 13, 2019, 4:42 pmHe’s played well everywhere he’s been and then immediately becomes an afterthought.
I mean the Rays just signed a guy out of Japan that is a complete unknown when it comes to MLB.
For just about the same level of commitment.
I just don’t get it.
Someone is gonna sign him and he’s gonna go on to play good defense and hit .290 .340.480 and we’re all gonna wonder why no one was interested....including the Padres.
He’s like the Rodney Dangerfield of MLB.
Do you realize he had a .906 OPS for the Phils last season?

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 14, 2019, 1:35 pmI think it helps that Preller has been all over the place this offseason.
He’s talked to just about everybody about just about every position.
If he had only spoken to a few teams....and “only” about pitching for instance...He would lose some leverage.
This way anyone he is trading with has to know he could just walk away and trade those prospects to someone else for someone else....or even a different position.
He has the prospects everyone wants...keeping many options open can only be an advantage.

pretty much... AJP has the prospects.. everyone asking for the top 5.. AJP saying 6-50 take 3 of them .. No, No, No (negotiations) bottomline 1, 2 or 3 teams maybe more are going to end up with 6-9 of our top 50 prospects-- the rest of the league can just watch and get nothing-- he who trades 1st gets their pick of the litter-- Potts + Weathers + Hunt for ??? ... Hope the kids that get traded do very well, as do the player/s we get.. so whomever held their ground on Gore or Patino or bust can regret it...

Could he be involved in a trade to Clev.?

Or a Myers dump? Prefer "no" to both. I mean if we are in on Marte I can stomach the move as we are truly positioning for 2020-21. However, I liked the idea of having specs Olivares, Cordero, TT, Cordoba (believe some may be sleeping on him), Abrams (maybe CF), and Grisham to an extent to form the foundation of OF in the future (like 2021+).
I know we are focused on winning now, but I think it may take two waves of contention to get to the promise land. I would really to get one more top / near MLB OF prospect. Certainly willing to give up a Morejon / Weathers type + for that player.
