Padres are in the situation that they have to work to maximize the value they can get out of Hosmer ... he is here and not going away (for now). May not be a $21MM guy but still if used vs. RHP (75% of the time) in the middle of the order and then dropped to 6th vs. LHP (and "rested" for a RHH that is particularly difficult for him) ... that should do it.

Given the current players .... flipping him in the line-up between #4 and #6 with Myers probably would help the overall line-up production.

Of course, getting an impact middle of the order bat for CF or RF would make this simpler ... just not seeing that happening. LAA rejected my Hedges for Trout proposal 🙂

Yeh, Texas was interested in him and they need a #1 catcher but have walked away given the CUBS demands. Guessing the CUBS are just trolling the waters to see if someone bites with a mega overpay. They don't NEED to trade him.

Listened to Hoyer today and he did not seem to be indicating any activity near term with any team (but that is GM speak). What he did say is that Preller calls everyone ... discusses every possible option ... and that is why the rumors alway have the Padres "interested in", "asking about", "pursuing", etc. any player writers want to link them to.

I like the idea of restricting Myers to RF and 1B.  Build trade value while simultaneously boosting production with LSP and allowing a greater level of stability (at least that is the idea).

I am guessing they will sit him against "selected" LHP ... given the analytics the Padres probably have a good profile on the pitcher (or style of pitcher) that just kills him ... maybe once a week for a strategic "rest" and think he can handle that for the good of the team keeping him fresher into the end of the season and getting the bench some ABs to keep them sharp for PH.

However, when a LHP is on the mound ... expect Myers in RF consider the alternatives are LHH (Cordero / Naylor). If France is around he would be a good 1B option. Then considering Hosmer's struggle v LHP ... actually Naylor may be more productive (he does OK v LHP) and then maybe pop Mejia to 1B or, dare I say ... Kinsler.

Angels just give up their #1 pick in the 2019 draft (#15 overall) to rid themselves of the final $13MM of Cozart's disastrous contract. On the flip side SF just "bought" that pick for $13MM.

Note: Wilson is a college guy that has yet to play full season ... so a few years out.

More salary room for LAA to sign either Cole or Rendon and maybe an indication that they will consider moving prospects (back to Marsh here) for upgrading the ML team now.

If Davies pitches even close to what he’s done the last couple seasons his $5 mil will be the bargain of the offseason.

Could we attach Weathers to Myers...pay half his contract and unload him to save $10 mil a year for 3 years?
