Does Perdomo survive today?

I'm thinking he is not offered a contract.

I am hearing a Profar for Perdomo 2 potential non tender swap..

Padres need more in that trade ... or better off trying to sign him via FA. (note: when he was a prospect I really wanted the Padres to get him ... now not so much)

Remember Perdomo has 3 years control and will only cost $1MM in 2020.

Profar has only 1 year of control and will cost via ARB $5.8MM ... that eats more payroll space for not much productivity.

2019: 218/301/410 (711 OPS) and neutral to poor dWAR.

Career: 234/315/394 (709 OPS)

That is not much output for $5.8MM and if OAK ... a contender ... is non-tendering him they really must think he is not worth it and can't find any trade partners (sort of a Villar case with BALT). I guess as a switch hitter and a "super utility" guy (plays basically all the field positions except C) he has usefulness ... but not at the price.

Add him and cut / deal Garcia? (Kinsler is guaranteed so no upside financially to releasing him). Makes little sense as a one for one swap for Perdomo.

Maybe hope of hopes, Perdomo AND Kinsler for Profar? money would be pretty close in 2020.

The comments I have heard suggest ... baring a move ... is that Ty France would be the starting 2B if the season started now ... not a Kinsler / Garcia platoon or a France / Garcia platoon. Padres seem to like France's baseball smarts and see upside in hit bat (maybe only to ML average but that in itself is better).

IF the Padres want to deploy salary / trade chips in other spots ... have a real belief that Edwards or Arias will garner 2B at some point in 2021 ... do they run with France for 2020?

His 2019 was appealing:

In AAA: 399/477/770 ... yes in the PCL .. yes the ML ball ... but he was still at the top of the hitters

In Sept for the Padres: 259/333/574 (907 OPS)

Yes the 2B defense would be an issue but he may be worth the early gamble on his bat upside.

Maybe he is appealing enough to justify only going for a reserve / platoon 2B option for 2020 and then see what they really have coming in Edwards and Arias who should both be in AA poised for that 2021 jump. As it stands, the bar they would have to jump will not be all that high for a 2021 takeover.

I agree Fenn, I think both Villar and Profar, while worthy adds for SD, are not worth what they will get in arb. So might as well roll the dice and see if you can pick them up after becoming FAs and get them for lower dollars and not using prospect money at the same time. I also think that Hernandez from PHI and Sanchez from CWS will also be available on the cheap as well.

There is no way France is the starter next year. Not a chance.

Looks like the Padres just picked up Jurickson Profar

Saw that.

Wonder what we had to give up?

I am on fire this off-season.. Called tge Trade.. And called Profar ... Way before anyone else .. Hope is Perdomo

Maybe Perdomo and the A's pay some salary relief?

Surely AJ thinks this kid can do better than his .301 OBP from last year.

I don't see the A's much so not sure why he had a good 18' and a bad 19'?

From my understanding listening to the talking heads on XM today, it was more just a poor start to 2019 than the whole year.

I would imagine, that if SD is on the hook for the projected arb salary, two things happened. One, Preller got a feeling that he was not the only one in on Profar and was also uncomfortable in a Villar outcome. Two, Im sure that AJP is thinking with Tingler from TEX at the helm, Profar is going to feel a lot more comfortable and we will see more of his career numbers than the start of the 2019 season. Plus, with Hosmer who is fluent in spanish, and the left side of the INF also being Latin, Profar may really feel at home in the dirt in SD.

Considering they would have paid zero if they non-tendered him ... can’t see them kicking some money unless they got a very, very good (and cheap) player in the deal ... that is NOT Perdomo in my view.

Got to see the rest of this deal but $5.8MM for Profar plus a trade chip greater than Jesse Schlotens would be an overpay.

Now all we have to due, is find somewhere to offload the salary of Kinsler and Myers. Then we could have $25M towards signing Stras!!
