Quote from fenn68 on November 15, 2019, 2:33 amConcern ... Franchy Cordero has a new glute injury which is delaying (maybe ending) his plan to play winter ball. After a couple of injury plagued years .... needs some field time.
I was not ready to rely on Cordero for 2020 but this setback makes his 2020 less probable ... he needs AB and so to AAA.
Another injury opens the concern of Cordero being more prone to injuries than most ... a longer term concern. Expect the Padres will continue to develop him ... but if they see a growing risk (at 25) ... the may choose to plan for 2020 without him in the ML.

Wheeler’s rumors suggest his price tag is increasing filling the vacuum behind Cole and Strasburg and will jump more if, as many expect, he signs an extension with WASH.
Thinking the Padres will settle for a less than TOR arm but an established veteran for quality innings / short term.
If so, that should lower the already low odds of the Padres moving either Gore or Patino who have the TOR potential and will be needed soon to replace Richards and whomever they sign as a FA (or via trade).
As MrP suggested, if Richards pitches well this season, he could be our TOR type guy. And there is no reason if he pitches well, that he can not be signed to an extension either. He is a So Cal guy, may have some loyalty to SD because of the rehab contract that he got from SD.

I would think that because he is being posted, that would potentially drive his cost up past what Dickerson could be. But maybe that is more of the older posting system, and not the current format.
If lets say that Dickerson and Tsutsugo are close to the same price(including the posting fee) who is the better deal? The Dickerson with an established ML track record, or the Japanese player that is an unknown on how he will translate into the American game?

Quote from BoosterSD on November 15, 2019, 6:57 amHere is some basic scouting information on Tsutsugo from MLBTR. Recapping it has concerns with him handling fastball velocity and limited defensive ability, regulating him to below average LF defense or 1B.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 15, 2019, 7:01 amHe's probably better suited for the AL but he is at least some sort of option to what we are looking for.
Have no idea what our Scouts think about him.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 15, 2019, 7:18 am" Dickerson’s 127 wRC+ topped all free agent outfielders this year, though he did it in just 279 plate appearances due to a shoulder strain and a broken foot. A left-handed hitter, Dickerson has been at least 15 percent above league average with the bat in each of the past three seasons. He’s not big on drawing walks but makes up for it with a relatively low strikeout rate. Dickerson has spent the vast majority of his time in left field, with varying defensive results. He rated poorly in Tampa Bay, which contributed heavily to the Rays’ decision to trade him, only to post brilliant metrics in 2018 and win a Gold Glove Award. He could be a useful addition for teams like the Padres, Marlins, Reds, Giants, Orioles, White Sox, Indians, Tigers and Royals."
This is from MLB Traderumors.
First they say Dickerson has the top wRC+ of all free agent Outfielders and yet at the bottom they say he would be a "useful addition" to...and then lists all the worst teams in MLB?
Would a Gold Glove winning outfielder with a wRC+ of 127 not be a good addition to good teams?
I've always wondered why this kid never gets any credit and is tossed around from team to team for pennies?
Is it just common knowledge that he "can't" be an everyday player and has to be a platoon guy?

Quote from fenn68 on November 15, 2019, 7:45 amHard to say what the scouts think of Dickerson but the Padres need some LHH and more offense from the OF. Even on a platoon he plays 75% of the time. Then consider he only cost money (and not all that much if you accept the projections.) He has a track record of hitting in the ML.
What is not to like given the legit alternatives on the market? Singing him does not preclude another add ... not as though the Padres are stuffed with high end OF talent. Money gets it done which is a lot easier than making trades and giving up prospects that could be used in other trades for upgrades.

LOVVVE Lamet! Thanks for posting this. When looking at Statcast stuff for Wheeler vs Strasburg, I looked @ Pads P's, and Lamet's jumped off the page.
A pattern I've noticed over & over again is we as Pads fans form opinions REALLY quickly on guys. So Paddack comes out of the gate hot that first month, is Mr. Intensity "in ten cities", dresses like the Cowboy of Death on game days, and overtly challenges Pete Alonso competing for Rookie of Year... and we eat up the early performance + personality, and we're annointing him an Ace, when he's projectably more of #3 with elite control but really lacking a 3rd pitch.
Someone, I think it was actually Wil Myers, was raving about Lamet heading into the 2018 season (before injury/TJ) that they thought he could win Cy Young award. Lamet really could end up emerging as "the" Ace ahead of Gore, Paddack, Patino.
