It’s gonna really suck to lose good prospects just to also lose Wil Myers.

I agree; however, something has to be done. We can not go on with a player that makes what Myers makes and does not hit his weight. This deal is an albatross that is going to hamstring us from going forward in the future.

Myers and Dickerson are both about as predictable as the other. Either one is capable of being a very good player or avg to below. I don't think its the Apocalypse if Myers is in the picture next season. Depends on other movesof course.

My point is that Myers hinders the quality of moves that we can do. Dickerson, while debatable on if he is as mediocre as Myers, Dickerson will provide those numbers for a 1/3 of the cost of Myers. And that is the issue.

Folks stop with these 4-5 for 1 deals. The Pads fairly got Fuentes, Margot, Guerra and L Allen in exchange for Adrian Gonzalez in his prime. You don't do those deals for Haniger or Marte type players. Heck, Kiley was talking about two top 100 prospects for Bryant and not in a top of farm way.  Per his reasoning, which I find well thought out usually, the Pads could easily get him for Patino and Edwards.

lets say we use the prospect/s we would have used to have someone take Myers 100%.. (instead) to acquire Contreras (Cubs) at C... Contreras Bat is stellar when compared to Hedges--- so by adding Contreras we improved on Hedges.. A LOT.. even if Myers is in LF (he himself had a below Myers avg year in 2019) so he too can improve on himself to avg Myers levels.. just that alone improves our Offense drastically...

I still like the idea of Benintendi + Price for Myers +++++ deal.. with Sox taking on ALL of Myers and still saving $16+ mil in payroll.... We solve our COF lefty stick, and we add a quality (expensive) SP for a Net $12 mil -- think of it as going out and signing Hamels on a 3/36 type deal.....

And then what would you do with Mejia?

My math says if you do this deal, then you have about $3M left over to make other additions to the team, and you are now paying an aging LHP that threw 107 innings last season to a 1.314 WHIP and finish the year with season ending wrist surgery and may or may not be ready for the start of the season. Maybe not the best way to spend prospects and $32M in cash????

I agree Booster. I want nothing to do with Price. If we are going to trade Myers we should add prospects and get rid of the money, not just trade one bad contract for a worse one. I also see no reason to trade for a C when we already have a good bat there. If we want to improve we need new OF. Trading for another C or 2B would be no better than trading for a closer or a SS.

The Braves sign Will Smith....3yr/$39 mil.

They are not fooling around with that bullpen.

After trading for three relievers at the  last deadline.

Probably doesn't help Yates extension that a (3 years younger, bigger, LH) guy with a qualifying offer attached got 3/40 or 4/52.  He was a "true" FA though, Yates still in arb with the ever present injury risk.

Yates:  ???   I was hoping 2 yrs + option, Yates might force us to go 3...  sure his agent will use above as template, but in arb...    3/25 MM @ 6/8/11?

Like that the "trade Myers" concept is spreading... but don't lose sight of having a plan to re-deploy the $ you save....

WHAT / HOW specifically do you spend this $ when there are really no FA position players Pads need to utilize this $ for?

OK if a different team has asset we want, than the one that acquires Myers, but then you have to make 2 trades involving multiple guys to get 1 player back?

You know where I stand; sign a big FA SP, then attach a MLB SP & a prospect SP to save as much as you can & partially offset the cost.  Sign Cory Dickerson to backfill LF with an MLB established LH bat.

Odorizzi ACCEPTS the QO ... take him off the board. Bit of a surprise.

Wheeler’s rumors suggest his price tag is increasing filling the vacuum behind Cole and Strasburg and will jump more if, as many expect, he signs an extension with WASH.

Thinking the Padres will settle for a less than TOR arm but an established veteran for quality innings / short term.

If so, that should lower the already low odds of the Padres moving either Gore or Patino who have the TOR potential and will be needed soon to replace Richards and whomever they sign as a FA (or via trade).
