Im a BIG Quantrill guy too, Jason. I would be comfortable with him having a rotation spot in 2020. He was dominant for a good stretch in 2019. He’s got the stuff, smarts and makeup to be special. I would just prefer to see him open as the long man/emergency/spot starter role to start 2020. I feel like you need 6 starters through a season and Cal is in my top 6.

That's fine. I am sure that is where he will start at in 2020. We have 5 other starters ahead of him already at this point. We could have more if we sign or trade for any. I just hope the Padres keep him in mind after what he gave us this year.

Yeah I even forgot Quantrill.

All the more reason I will not be happy if we waste money and/or prospects just to get another middle of the rotation arm.

It will be interesting in the Padres quest of upgraded OF and SP to see which of the current SP is used in trades.

Many may want to trade player X (Lauer seems to be the #1 off load target) but if we think that ... so does the other team and therefore want someone we don’t want to deal. Also, we think other teams will jump at the Padres prospect list ... but a fair chance a team with the player the Padres covet really wants ML talent.

Quantrill maybe be a legit trade chip or end up starting for the Padres if they swing deals that require ML SP (Lamet, Lauer, Lucchesi). Not out of the question IF the return is right and Quantrill, Gore, Patino, Morejon are on the door step.

Do think Tatis to the OF will happen but not for a few years ... hopefully when the superior defensive option Arias is ML ready. He is going to out grow SS given his father’s size and even now his range factor is among to lowest in MLB ... that is not going to get better.

I guess if they can play Naylor, Myers, et al in the OF .... Tatis will be serviceable but will still have to learn reading the ball, routes, and jumps ... not a given even for an elite athlete either. He could be great in RF ... or not.

We will have to observe his muscle injuries going forward ... too early to say if that is an issue. Note that given his style of play ... watch out for the OF walls.

I think Lauer has the highest upside out of Q/Bolanos/Lucchesi .. And may want to hang on to him tbh ..i wouldn't have said this last off-season but those 2-3 mph his fastball started showing with 3 other high avg pitches could make him Boyd like... Lucchesi is at his floor right now ..but his ceiling is well limited with his lack of velo..still a very effective 5-6 inning #4/5 type and may be the one both teams want to move and move for.. Q and Bolanos probably have more trade value than both as does Morejon because teams can dream on them.. Lamet I would not move unless I was getting a Noah back.. I think Lamet is one pitch away (hopefully he develops it) from TOR status ..as is get him past that 1st inning and he has a chance to be elite as he is

iisi think Arias who I love.. Will be one of the KEY ask from other teams and probably one of rhe specs we move this off-season .. I see him as a .275/.330/.450 floor (at MLB) with much more upside if he can maintain his gains from this past season at AA.. With ++ defense .. But like they say "we can't keep them all" and need to give up quality to get quality

I can’t imagine Tatis in CF.

With his “Mentos in Pepsi” playing style I cant imagine he would ever play a full season.

No thank you.

I would think that playing in the grass would be much easier on his body than playing SS.

Have you seen him play?

lol

He would be running in to walls and diving at full speed and.....lord I don’t even want to think about it.

Yes, watched about 90+ games last season. There are a lot more dives and rough plays at SS than OF. I would imagine that if you put a poll out there, most would feel that OF is easier on the body that INF.

OF is easier than anywhere on the dirt except maybe 1B.. Then again 1B touches the ball 2nd most on the team (C #1) obviously P 100%..

I think MadBum is going to be a Beast next season and he is younger and cheaper than most FA SP.. He will be yet 1 more yr removed from his ATV injury and may not get to 2014 form but be like 3.50 with nice analytics.. While P 200+ IP... And if we get to the postseason ..he turns into a BULL.. (Price did and i consider MadBum >) also remeber we gave a much older Sgields 4/75 ..just a xouple yrs back so 4/72 for MadBum a no brainer.. Especially if we parley that into 2/26 for Hamels as well.. MadBum/Paddack/Hamels/Richards/Lamet or Lucchesi would be a deep SP staff especially with Gore and/or Patino on their way soon.. We may lack a true 123 matchup for WS (until Gore or Patino or both arrive) but MadBum /Paddack and Co. Could keep us in games until the Bps take over where we should have an advantage .. I like it..4yrs of MadBum. Even of he is just 2019 MadBum still very very nice

Commie, who is dead wrong about what? The way the posts stack when quoting, its hard to see sometimes what someone is trying to respond to.

That OF is harder to play than IF.  Sorry.
