I can’t imagine Tatis in CF.

With his “Mentos in Pepsi” playing style I cant imagine he would ever play a full season.

No thank you.

I would think that playing in the grass would be much easier on his body than playing SS.

Have you seen him play?

lol

He would be running in to walls and diving at full speed and.....lord I don’t even want to think about it.

Yes, watched about 90+ games last season. There are a lot more dives and rough plays at SS than OF. I would imagine that if you put a poll out there, most would feel that OF is easier on the body that INF.

Am I the only one that’s going to be upset if we end up acquiring a #3 starter?

If Stras and Cole are out....fine.

But either find another bona fide Ace or a “true” #2 Starter or spend the money/prospects on the offense.

We have #3 starters in spades....and more coming.

We need offense and/or a starter who is obviously better than Lucchesi.

Of Richards has a good season we could extend him after 2020.

So without any moves(barring injury),for 2021 we could have Paddack/Lamet/Richards/Gore/Patino/Lucchesi and this isn’t even considering advances by Morejon/Baez/Lawson/Bolanos/Thompson and the next year you can add Cantillo and Weathers.

I also left out Lauer and Margevicius.

Of course they won’t all advance....and some will go to the Pen.

But why would we need a Matthew Boyd or a Jon Gray or a Robbie Ray even?

Don't forget/underestimate Quantrill too. I believe there is value in a medium term deal for a #3 guy to "lead the staff" and the two perfect guys are Madbum or Hamels. How much is the question, of course.

Long been pushing to acquire Gray. I hope AJ pulls trigger if he is truly available.

How do you like Richards Gray Madbum Paddack Lucchesi with Lamet as shut down RP?

Booster, come on man! Playing INF is definitely easier on the body.  Patrolling Centerfield over an entire season is hard to do. Combine that with Tatis wild hair on fire playing style he would definitely end up on the injured list. This entire moving Tatis thing is just silly. He’s the franchise shortstop for years to come and isn’t moving anywhere. Let’s put that silly topic to rest.

MadBum, no way. Did you see the way he got rocked this year by LAD. Dont we want to beat them? Plus, MLBTR is predicting a 4/72 package for Madbum. I just dont buy into his hype anymore, especially for 4 years.

I've played both and you are dead wrong.

Tatis was average at best last year overall on defense. Highlight plays galore, but too many routine plays booted or thrown away. Could improve and will. Not against him at SS this year. Just positing an option that has appeal.

Commie, who is dead wrong about what? The way the posts stack when quoting, its hard to see sometimes what someone is trying to respond to.

You mean unlike the previous season where he was completely healthy the whole season? Its not like he hurt himself doing the splits for a throw. Oh wait, he did.

Have you ever been on a pro level INF? The dirt is almost as hard as concrete. Its brutal.

Everyone keeps forgetting about Quantrill. When he was on last year he was our best starter outside of Paddack. He was what, a #7 pick in the draft for a reason. I would definitely put him as one of our "Top 5" for a future rotation. If everything works out I see Gore/Paddack/Patino/Lamet/Quantrill in that order, but with the possibility of Quantrill going up to as high as #3.

I agree with you on this Mr. P. I don't see us having the money to get Cole or Strasburg. Even if we could get Strasburg, I can see his contract becoming a huge, lead weight worse than Myers is within 3 years. All of the other pitchers available, while cheaper, will end up getting far more money than they will actually be worth. I can see Wheeler being a quality #2, POSSIBLY worth 5/$100 million. I would not feel good going into a playoff series with Richards/Wheeler/Paddack as our rotation. I guess that is not really what we are looking for at this point though. We are just looking to GET to the playoffs and I think that rotation could get us there. I don't think we will have a rotation that will be dangerous in a playoff series until we have both Paddack and Gore along with one more out of Patino, Lamet or Quantrill actually fulfilling their promise at the major league level.

I would only really have interest in Wheeler at this point, and I see him as mostly a very high quality innings eater. Is that worth it to us? Are we just looking for a rotation with the ability to get us to the post season but not win? Because I see that as being all we can really do this off season unless we go all out for Cole.

Tatis has been hurt as a hitter, baserunner and doing a crazy stretch splits on a force at second. It wasn’t necessary for him to do that crazy stretch. Let’s not act like his injuries are due to his SS position.
His style of play is fun as hell to watch. It’s must watch TV, but it’s also worrisome due to injury risk. I think that goes for wherever you stick a guy like him, but the thought of him in CF is INSANE. Yeah...good idea...lets have the guy with the wild man playing style, worrisome early injury history who is the franchises best player, play centerfield in Petco park for 81 games. He won’t get hurt running into a wall or run into OFs on each side of him. I’m sure he won’t charge into an INFer coming out on a ball. I’m sure he won’t pull a hamstring tracking down a ball in right center gap. Why is it that INFs are usually the ones playing 162 games? OFs get way more rest days than INFs. I too played the game, but I’ll refrain from sounding like an internet glory days poster.
