JBJ vs RHP  (career) .750 OPS.... 2019 .787 OPS..... around .320 ish OBP

Margot vs LHP (career) .775 OPS.... 2019 .886 OPS .... career .338 OBP.. but 2019 a big step foward .420...

 

That Platoon would = 5.5 to 6 WAR from CF... or about top 5 CF'er in the MLB.... Hey part of putting a roster together is maximizing your assets... with ELITE Defense from both... and tremendous bench flex late in games.. Speed too... Red Sox would take a bag of balls (10-15 team type specs) to rid themselves of that payroll obligation.. controlled for 2 yrs,,,

You were the one who referred to him as a prospect, not me. No, obviously I have not scouted him or watched much of him playing in Japan. What are my sources? You have 1 mans opinion. I just find it arrogant for so many people to say they KNOW how a player will perform when he has never had a chance to before. I realize we are online where everyone ON EARTH absolutely KNOWS they are right ALL OF THE TIME, but I think we should see Akiyama play before we pass judgement. I mean, I am sure everyone KNEW that Washington had no chance of winning the WS this year too.

I am not saying he will be successful, I am not saying we won't be. I am saying we will need to wait and see.

I totally agree with you. He needs to come over and play. He doesn't have to be Ichiro, but if he can play as a starter or 4th OF, cool. But don't plan for him to be the guy. The lack of stateside exposure cannot be recknciled without big time scouting. Otherwise it's a crapshoot which I will pass on unless it's cheap.

Yes, Akiyama will be a roll of the dice. MLBTR suggests that he goes to AZ on a 2 yr / $6M deal. So, $3M to see if he can platoon with Margot is pretty good option.

Who cares about WAR, its a horrible stat that was created to make players look better than what the real stats are, players like JBJ and his horrific .225 BA and .317 OBP with his $11.M salary for 2020. The only reason people praise him is because he plays for BOS. Even BOS doesnt think that he is worth his contract. Hell there is rumor that BOS will simply DFA him, and then SD can sing him for whatever he will take, wouldnt/shouldnt be a lot. So do not waste ANY prospect on him, and dont take on his $11M salary that should be used towards signing Stras.

Would love for the Padres to do it but it won't happen. Besides which we would still need at least 1 more OF. Maybe use whatever assets are necessary to trade for a guy like Conforto and get rid of Myers? Anyone but our top 3? It will never happen but it is fun to think about.
