Package Margot, Hedges, Lauer, and Arias for Marte.
Sign Dickerson and Akiyama.
Marte is full time RF, Dickerson/Renfroe platoon in LF, and Gettys/Akiyama platoon in CF.
What about Myers ?
I guess the best bet is to send him away with cash and some mid level prospects, and get about nothing more than a lotto pick type prospect back. Maybe a DET, BAL, or some other middling team that needs a boost in prospects much like SD a few years ago.

Quote from BoosterSD on November 5, 2019, 9:48 amQuote from TatisJr on November 5, 2019, 8:11 amI like the idea of acquiring Marte as a corner OF. Sending out Margot to go with a platoon of Gettys and a 32 year old Japanese in center sounds awful. I don’t see how that platoon makes the Padres a better team in 2020 or down the road.
At this time, I dont see much difference in Gettys and Margot. Margot has not made the strides he needs to and Gettys is every bit as good defensively as Margot, just with the same OBP issues and more power. So save $1.5M and live with Gettys until Trammell is ready.

Quote from fenn68 on November 5, 2019, 10:13 amDickerson (LF) - Akiyama (CF) - Marte (RF) = +$23MM on 2020.
Trade Renfroe and Margot and save $5.5MM ... net plus $17.5MM
Trade Myers and 1/2 of his cash owed ... save $10MM ... net goes to plus $7.5MM.
With Marte capable of shifting to CF IF Akiyama struggles with ML pitching ... back up with two of Naylor, Cordero, or Martini for a corner and wait for Trammell to be ready.

Wow! I like how this idea evolved with multiple inputs on the thread... interesting 2 yr window of older, hopefully more patient, established guys.... evolving into: ?, Trammell, ? in 2022. I'm increasingly thinking the Pads are going to protect at least 1 RH OF since moves like this now or in future will suddenly make them light there. My feeling is Ona simply due to the large amount of $ invested + promising start last year... just don't want to risk losing the 14 MM investment for nothing.
What do you guys think it would take to get Marte? seems like HIGH demand for him.
Still like the idea of adding SP, and think they could, but "using" Myers this way (even adding others to get more salary covered) probably precludes signing Strasburg. Bumgarner? Wheeler? Hard to add 18-20 MM not only 1st year, but 2nd year also with added salaries of "new" OF.
This idea makes a lot of sense though. If I had to pick between +Strasburg & Dickerson - Myers, Lucchessi, prospect vs this concept, I would still favor Stras.
HUGE problem is going to be waiting out Stras & not making other moves. Teams like Pads may have no choice but to pull trigger elsewhere... all the SPs are going to be waiting a long time this offseason....

Quote from fenn68 on November 5, 2019, 3:37 pmSee the Strasburg thing playing out one of two ways:
1. A fast signing with WASH on an extended modified contract ... WASH has the money (remember for them it is just incremental to his current deal for 2020), Rizzo - Boras have a good relationship with creative contracts, and from some reports Strasburg likes WASH. This is my odds on result.
2. WASH does not work out ... Boras drags this out until February in a dance with Cole’s signing.
So, I agree that puts any team who may be in on Strasburg in a bad situation if they need any other help or need a fall back if they don’t get Strasburg.
Other FA (or even trade targets) may get taken by team not waiting on a Strasburg decision. Padres would be in a bind if they waited and did not get Strasburg. IF Strasburg is their top priority ... their best shot is go in big and fast at their upper level and if rejected ... just move on. My guess is that after the past two FA seasons, agents have seen some of the better contracts for mid-range player happen with early signings (like McCutcheon) and also have see the hold outs not getting what they wanted (see Kuechel and Kimbrel).

My vote would go to just getting Dickerson and Maybe Akiyama. Get them while they are available because they won't be available later. Strasburg we cannot be counted on to walk away with and he will cost a TON. Our rotation was already average this year, next year it should be above average. Management has already brought in an Ace and his name is Richards. His performance from recent years is better than MadBum, Hamels, etc. Yes he is coming back from TJ surgery but that is an everyday thing now. If we spend all of our money on a Strasburg we have nothing left to improve our offense which was a lot worse than our pitching. We have players set or prospects close to ready to take care of our starting rotation, bullpen, infield and catcher. The only place we need help for now and the future is outfield.
I expect Richards, Paddack, Lamet, Quantrill, Munoz and Baez to all improve and be able to provide more innings this year because of the extra time and experience. That can put our pitching into the upper level, and it doesn't even take into consideration what Gore, Patino and Morejon could add. Seriously, who wouldn't trade the left side of their infield for Tatis and Machado? Mejia was the top catching prospect and Urias the top 2B prospect in all of baseball last year. They should all give us plus offense overall and all (including Hosmer but excluding Mejia) give us decent to plus OBP. Where is our weakness? I only see one, outfield.
Renfroe still has huge power, arm and plus defense. If he can put up a full next year like his first half this year he is a plus with OBP and strikeout problems but still useful. Especially in a platoon. CF and LF need players who can play defense and give us high OBP and plus offense against RH pitchers. Trammell is exactly that but might be a year or two away. So we could use a bridge to him like Akiyama. LF is a need that can be filled very well by Dickerson. That is a total of two adds this off-season. I see us as a whole lot closer than most people do.
I also think that Pittsburgh will ask for too much in return for Marte to make it worth our while to trade for him. I think we should use our secondary prospects first to help us get rid of Myers. If we have enough left over to still get Marte then great! Let's do it!

I would think that the trade value is something slightly less than the package for Yelich. As I believe at the time that Yelichs salary was less and had more control.
MIA got Brinson, Harrison, Diaz, and Yamamoto. Following are ranks by John Sickels in an article dated, 2/13/2017
Lewis Brinson was MIL top prospect, but rated only a B+. Isan Diaz was ranked MIL #4 prospect and rated a B/B+. Monte Harrison was ranked #20 and rated at a C+. And believe it or not, Yamamoto was not in MILs top 20, but was also ranked a C+. So a B+, a B, and 2-C+ rated prospects.
So I went to the same website and checked our current ratings as of March 14, 2018.
B+ rating is Urias, Morejon, B/B+ rating is Quantrill, Luchessi, Lauer, House, and a boatload of others.

Miggy wouldn’t get but 200-250 AB’s in S.D. If that.

Balt needs everything and has money.

Mancini is good, but that looks like big overpay: eat 30 MM of Myers 60 + 4 players? Myers is worth roughly 8-10 MM alone. Yes, would have to kick in more to get them to part with Mancini, but if that much, Balt should take on more of Myers' salary.
My similar proposal has Myers & Bolanos (or Baez or Lawson), subs Lucchesi for: Morejon + Naylor + Miller... think trading team would pay 45 MM (15 MM per) for mine. Morejon way more risk, but definitely more upside & control years too.
Mancini's 1st yr arb is 5.7 MM... another good year, and his 2nd year might > 10 MM Balt paying Myers.
