Quote from fenn68 on November 5, 2019, 2:31 amMejia will be the #1 catching 120 games .... would not waste money on a top level back-up for 40 games even if they jettison Hedges (which they should). More inclined to go with Allen / Torrens as needed ... given Allen’s 2019 in EP he has no reason to go back to AAA and save payroll to upgrade other spots.

Quote from fenn68 on November 5, 2019, 2:42 amProbably would not sign any of the SP options (other than Strasburg / Cole) that required 2 year deals and leave a clear path for Gore / Patino / Morejon / Quantrill / Lawson to pitch when they are ready (some late in 2020).
Richards - Paddack - Lamet - Lucchesi - Lauer ... with Quantrill out of ST would not be too bad if supported by an improved OF offense (Dickerson / Akiyama) and the return of Tatis, expected improvement from Urias (over Kinsler) and Mejia (over Hedges).
Make trades at the deadline moving Richards and Lauer / Lucchesi and open the door for Gore / Patino.
However, if they can land a 1 year deal on a good innings eater SP for 2020 and in turn make a trade this winter (e.g. Lauer as part of a package) to get an upgrade OF (e.g. Marte) that would work ... and that player would be trade fodder at the deadline.

I would go 3+ on a lot of FA SP to be honest.. MadBum. Wheeler. Keuchel. Hamels (1+1). Ryu. Orodozzi. Etc. All represent a Vet solid fringy TOR solid #2.elite #3 type I mean we only have Paddack in that sphere at the moment so 1 or 2 such arms would be welcomed

I agree that Mejia will catch a lot of games this year. And you are correct on Allen that he has not much to prove in AAA. However, unless Preller, through the eyes of Tingler, has changed his mind on Allen, I dont see the FO having much confidence in Allen for whatever reason. So, if they are to trade Hedges, I see a Lucroy/Hundley type signing for about $2-3.5M for a season. About what they were going to pay Hedges via arb, so not much of an increase to maybe a little savings for a guy that is better suited being a back up.
And I see Hedges as part of the package that might entice PIT to part with Marte.

As far as I am concerned, I dont really see any of the LHPs on your list being that much of an improvement over Luaer or Luchessi, especially for the money that they will command. IMO for those LHPs, you are paying more for their name than what they can truly provide on the mound, especially since none of them are power pitchers and all are on the wrong side of 30.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 5, 2019, 5:33 amA way way out of left field move..crazy really..
Tigers send
Miggy + $45 mil cash + Fulmer (injured) + SP Boyd + RP Greene + OF Victor Robles.. (All in about $45 mil in payroll.. Offset by cash from Set say -$15 a yr..net payroll intake $30 mil for 2020)
Padres send
Myers + Franchy + Lauer + Hedges + Arias + Ornelas (net out take $25 mil roughly)
I know Miggy restricted to 1B/DH/PH..but would be great for the young latinos on the team can still hit with the best and can be the vs LHP platoon to Hosmer.. DH for those 8-9 away games vs AL teams and PH almost daily.. 400 PA's or so.. Sure this is a huge negative cost but if we are lucky enough to make the WS can't think of a better DH option ...and the potential +++ of rhe other players involved make us deeper and better potentially great (when Fulmer returns) way I look at it we add a SP Boyd + a RP Greene + 4th OFer platoon vs RHP type OFer all 3 needs ..along with a HOFer stud hitter who has lost his power but can still be a valuable contributor.. Fulmer (like Richards) could be back for the stretch run.. Only costs us a Net +$5 mil to address 3 areas+ of needs..still having enough $$ for Stras or other SP and a Dickerson type signing..
Detroit is far away from contention adding controlable pieces like Lauer + Hedges + Franchy plus potential MLB regulars in Arias SS and Ornelas OF down the line fits them well Myers just needs to put it all together in Det to be worth a few more chios for Detroit .. Miggys contract even at a net $15 mil is pretty bad ..but he is exactly the type that would make that Kendrick type post season difference ..
Sort of a swing for the fences move here.. If Boyd takes the necessary steps foward ..Fulmer comes back strong and Robles can be more than a 4th.. Padres would have a HR in their hands .. But at worse we get 2 more arms Greene and Boyd as part of the roater construction ...anyway a way to improve by taking on a worse contract than Myers and getting depth if not frontline pieces in the process.. Whike only costing us net $5 mil
Bottomline we improve SP + BP + hitting especially vs RHP our Achilles. For only +$5 mil net and bring in a guy that likely gets Machado ..to realize his vast potential (7-8 WAR career type yr) and the young latinos get a Papi type father figure.. Hell how about Might player/hitting coach role.. Now that ia way the hell out of the box thinking 😆

Miggy is a $30 mil singles hitter and he isn't a great clubhouse guy. He isn't vocal and wants to be left alone. I live near Detroit and all of the fans are over him and would take any trade to get rid of him plus the GM Avila is inept and can't make a trade. It is out of the box though keep them coming, it's all we have right now. Boyd is the only decent player on their 25 man roster the rest are garbage, they didn't lose 114 by accident

Quote from TatisJr on November 5, 2019, 8:11 amI like the idea of acquiring Marte as a corner OF. Sending out Margot to go with a platoon of Gettys and a 32 year old Japanese in center sounds awful. I don’t see how that platoon makes the Padres a better team in 2020 or down the road.
