So the new pitching rule is it 3 batters or 3 outs?

If a guy comes in and gets a K and then an inning inning DP....is he done?

Or,if he comes in and can't get an out is he done after three hitters?

Or is it either or?

Face at least 3 batters or get to the end of an inning, I believe.

I can not express with a keyboard how glorious it is to see the Padres in Brown!

It my take a couple years before I can watch this team and not immediately think about how happy this makes me.

here you go

MLB instituted a rule change that requires pitchers to either face a minimum of three batters in an appearance or pitch to the end of a half-inning, with exceptions for injuries and illnesses.

The three batter rule might lead to some interesting roster / strategy decisions beyond the LHP vs LHH specialist.

Line-up structure splitting up LHH might decrease the value of marginal LHRP, PH can be used set up the following hitters with favorable matchup or force a team to stick with current pitcher.

Interesting to see how this evolves.

Who's our best 2B defender?

Not Garcia.  Can't say Profar with the throwing issues last year.  Have to go with Dozier a Gold Glove winner in 2017.  Even if not that guy anymore, he's quite a bit better until Profar has put the throwing issues behind him.

I'm still scratching my head as to why Profar was traded for....HR production at 2B or Stolen base guy or his .218 BA last year ?

I believe AJ thinks he's more like the guy he was in 2018 than the guy in 2019.

Pretty sure I saw something about his BABIP supporting this theory?

He had excellent exit velo off the bat as well, I believe.

Preller has always loved the guy, it seems, and if I remember correctly he was acquired as a guy they envisioned as a super UTIL. There's still a place for him on this roster if Dozier wins the job at 2B.

Profar's 2nd 1/2 was pretty good, and BABIP nowhere to go but up.  And more time since injury issues maybe affecting throwing, so hope is that is in the past.  He's always had good power, but dubious on base skills

A template for a Tatis extension ... CWS just sign Yoan Moncada to an extension.

Moncada is older (24) and has 2 years of service time. He gets $70MM for 5 years ... the first four would have been control years and the fifth was a buyout of a FA year. Plus the CWS got a Club Option for 2025 at $25MM. Moncada becomes a FA at age 30.

Tatis is only 21 and has only one year of service time ... so he has five control years making a base 5 year in the deal (if signed before 2020 season) maybe about $55MM then add the FA years at about $25MM ... hopefully all club options.

Still think the Padres may wait until next winter ... just to be sure Tatis can stay healthy and his half season does not carry forward (at that level). See Myers.
