Let's not be so quick to throw Wingenter's name into the AAAA bin. The dude has legitimately good stuff and was a stud in April/May before his command fell off a cliff. He's almost certainly ticketed for the minors, but I'd be disappointed if he didn't become a plus contributor at the big league level sometime this year or next.

Also, while we're at it, I want to recognize that Perdomo wasn't actually THAT bad last year. He had an ERA+ of 106 and soaked up a lot of innings in losing games for us. I still like his stuff, too. He probably isn't a member of a playoff-caliber bullpen, but he's still got some value.

We are on the same page on this one.

Quantrill may be in the future but if the Padres want to win out of the blocks and contend ... Perdomo may be the better choice. 2019 was not a big selling point for Quantrill.

Quantrill had an unsightly 5.16 ERA almost exclusively as a SP. Only 11 innings out of the pen ... so no record as a RP. Meanwhile, as a RP, Perdomo rolled out a 4.00 ERA ... not great but better than Quantrill.

Work with Wingenter in AAA ... he has velocity and some wicked stuff ... had the shoulder issue at the end of the season ... healthy and some improvement with command he a legit ML pen option.

I know most of you think it’s crazy, but I feel like Preller is going to land Kris Bryant. I think Kimbrel or Chatwood could be added in the deal so Cubs unload some salary while adding young cheap talent. The Padres have a major surplus in pitching and Bryant doesn’t seem likely to be with them long term. Ownership will be willing to take on salary if it means they land star like Bryant. The Cubs and Padres make a lot of sense as trade partners. Didn’t Morejon make his debut in Wrigley? Showcase?

Juan Lagares sign to minors deal.  Move along, nothing to see here.

How would Bryant make us better? How many LFers do we need? We have 6 on the 40 man roster, no true CFer, and a RFer that hasnt seen the field in 2 years as it is. The only thing worse in 2020 than having Naylor in the OF at all, would be Myers in CF so we could put another LFer in RF.

We need to get a real CFer now, and get rid of Myers some how. And even IF we can get rid of Myers, Bryant in RF is a BAD idea!

I did say I do believe Wingenter could still become a quality ML reliever.....but “right now” we have an extremely deep Pen so he is one of the odd men out.

Same with Perdomo.

I “personally” don’t believe he will get better....unlike Wingenter.

We just have too many others better at this time.

Maybe Perdomo will prove me wrong....but personally I think we should use him in a trade to get value for him while we can.

How would Bryant make us better?

He has a career OBP of .385 and a career OPS of .901 and he’s only 28.

Now you could argue he would cost too much or we would have to play someone out of position.....but you can’t argue that he wouldn’t make us better.

I’ve seen rumor that Tatis could get reps in CF?

If true(which I doubt) but if true,Bryant at 3B and Machado at SS would be pretty sweet.

Booster, you can’t be serious with that take? Kris Bryant is one of the best players in baseball and any team that acquired would instantly be better. As Mr.P pointed out .385 OBP 30 plus homer guys don’t grow on trees. Bryant can play 3B,1B,RF or LF. He’s a great athlete and he’s been versatile for the Cubs while putting up elite offensive numbers.

Not counting the money, which is a big issue outside of itself, but yes defense. We already have at least 2 if not 3 OFers playing out of place, and Bryant would do nothing but make it worse. Myers, Grisham, and Cordero are all probably playing out place, with Grisham probably being the best defensive CF option, while Myers is better suited in LF or 1B, and Grisham and Cordero are better suited for RF.

Imagine an OF of Pham in LF, Myers in CF, and Bryant in RF could be more brutal than the 2015 OF of Upton, Myers, and Kemp.

Now if SD could handle the money, and Tatis was willing to go to CF, then yes, Bryant at 3rd, Machado at SS, and Tatis in CF would be awesome.

Pham/Myers/Bryant could also bring us close to 100 Hr’s and 250 RBI’s.

Not likely but:

Tatis-Pham-Machado-Bryant-Myers-Hosmer-Mejia-Profar-P

Easily a WC team.

BTW.....I would prefer Cordero kicks ass in ST and plays CF against all RH pitchers.

Myers can play CF against LH and some 1B.
