Have not seen the list of minor league FA yet.

Boston has its payroll issue. Betts would be the focus in trade rumors but not all that sure Boston would move him all the cheaply ... more likely they will cut into the payroll by just giving away Bradley ... way too expensive for his offensive contribution.
That combo may make Price - Myers (plus others) a feasible option. For Boston they gamble on Myers (3 year - LF/1B/DH) ... save some money ... but still would need a ML SP (Lamet?) and likely a RP (Baez?). Even with his ups and downs over the past few seasons .. Prices “value” is still high (a lot higher than Myers) so Boston is not moving him even with his contract without a lot more than Myers (and his contract).
I am on the Red Sox chat daily... Bosox need to lower payroll yet reinvest to contend... Porcello is out.. Price is too Pricey (but like Greinke hard to move) and Betts is going to make $30 mil in arb. So a Myers + Naylor + Lucchesi deal for Price + Benintendi (price you pay to save $12.5+ in Payroll ($40 mil roughly over 3 yrs)... Makes a ton of sense to the Sox... They can still go out and resign JDM or get younger and go after Castellanos (at a cheaper cost $19mil per likely).... could still deal Betts and make a play for a TOR (either trade Betts/younger high upside trade) or a FA like Cole ($30 mil per) or Stras ($25 mil per) or more affordable options like MadBum, etc...
So basically Boston can revitalize their SP... in Cole + Lucchesi out Price and Porcello (FA)... that is a HUGE ++ for Boston (even with MadBum)... They replace Benintendi + JDM (opt out) with Myers/Naylor/Castellanos so better depth and maybe even greater production not to mention the Betts trade (to whomever) to replensish the Farm... $$$ saved $20(JDM) + $30 (Betts) + $5 (Benny) + $33 (Price) = $88 mil Money in $30 (Cole) + Myers $20 + $19 Castellanos ... $69... Net savings $19 mil.. enough to get them under Luxury Tax... and can still move JBJ if needed.. Myers in Boston's smallish ballpark can play anywhere in that OF...maybe we can even include Jank in the deal to make it easier for them to part ways with JBJ...
Padres get a Vet Pitcher with WS experience to lead the young guns, Price should excell away from Boston and AL East into at least a (Chacin type Pad success version)... We can still pursue Strasburg (cause Price only costs us $12.5 net+)... and we go with the JPN Shogo as our 2nd lefty ---
After deal-- and with a Stras type TOR added-- 1) Starsburg/Paddack/Price/Lamet/Richards... still have our stable of arms.. intact.. GORE/PATINO on the verge/// Lauer/Bolanos/Morejon for depth... thats a hell of a DEEP rotation with Legit 1-2-3 post season punch and thats not even taking into account a GORE intro to MLB -- he may be Paddack + as a Rookie as well...
LF Benintendi CF Shogo RF Renfroe.. 4th OF Margot... (could still pony up for Dickerson as well) Same IF C as of now
Pads Payroll after all moves still low $140's... adding Dickerson puts it into the mid $150ish... still quite reasonable.. and can actually keep it in that realm for the next 3-5 yrs as the window would be in full swing with such an offseason... after 2020 ($8 mil drops off Richards and is replaced by Gore/Patino).. after 2021 (if Trammell is who AJP thinks he is Dickersons $11 or so mil drop off).. and in 2022 (Price $35 mil drop off) giving us 3 different levels of $$ relief which we can use to extend Tatis Jr, extend Beny and possibly add a piece or 2 (also Hosmer either opts out saving us $20 or stays saving us $7mil as well)...
- Tatis Jr SS 2. Beny RF 3. Machado 3B 4. Dickerson/Renfroe LF 5. Hosmer (vs RHP) 1B 6. Mejia C 7. Urias 2B 8. Pitcher 9) Shogo CF
Bench - Hedges C + France 3B/1B/2B + Garcia IF + Franchy OF+ Renfroe (starts vs LHP) OF + Margot (starts vs LHP).... well balanced hogh OBP lineup vs RHP our achilles... still have a superior lineup vs LHP who we crushed it against in 2019...
The ++ of Stras + Price with only losing Lucchesi is a huge SP upgrade for us when combined with continued improvement from Lamet and Paddack a healthy Richards and the soon arrival of Gore + Patino... could still use Bolanos/Q/Lauer/Morejon etc.. as chips to frther upgrade this squad be it in the offseason or at the deadline...
I can see that you are determined to get this to work out Henry. I just don't see the point of it from the Sox perspective. Benintendi is far and away the most valuable asset in that trade, and he is cheap. Trading him for Myers is a HUGE step down for them. Lucchesie for Price is equal or a slight loss for them(maybe even a big loss since you seem to really like Price). That means that Naylor would have to be the piece making up for all of the value they are losing. He is not even close. So they are essentially giving up u very much needed piece in Benintendi for what, $10 million per year in savings? And they would have a 3 year hole in their outfield just like we do now. They will not make that trade. They will not sign Cole, even if they do lose Betts. They just don't have the financial flexibility. They will not make a trade unless it saves them real money(which we will not take on) or unless it gives them real value back(which this trade does not). They would not make a straight Price for Myers trade. Too much lost value and not enough savings(plus a hole in their lineup). So Lucchesie and Naylor for Benintendi? I doubt it.

Stock claimed via waives ... gone
Kennedy clears waivers and will be assigned to the minors (probably EP)

I guess technically Stammen is gone now as a FA. All needs to be settled by Monday ... so more coming soon.

Quote from JasonE135 on October 31, 2019, 1:49 pmJankowski is gone. Loved his defense but he can be easily replaced. Thank you Jank and best of luck to you with your new team! That makes 4 cuts from the 40 man already doesn't it? Jankowski, Warren, Kennedy, Stock. No great losses. We only have several easy cuts left.

Also as expected, Robbie Erlin Waived & elects FA. That's 5 + Stammen automatically FA = 6.
So now at "45" on 40-man. Minimum 5 more moves by Monday incl near certain Buyout of LHP Loup (200K vs 2 MM).

Name of the game is hitting and that's why somebody like Naylor has a spot....defensive liability but puts the bat on the ball and given the chance will hit 10-15 HRs.....Jankowski played great defense but a 190 to 210 BA won't keep you in the lineup. Hedges is in a different spot because his skill set is very hard to replace behind the plate and his hitting can be fixed...all it takes is a coach that knows what he is talking about and a player that is willing to learn a new approach to batting instead of his one handed fly away garbage swing.
That one hand fly away is one of the worst hitting ideas to be promoted in the last 50 years and coaches that preach that so be fired yesterday. There are so many flaws in that swing and Hedges is the poster boy of why the mechanics are garbage.
Austin...if you read this get a hold of me and we can get your swing fixed....no charge and I've been teaching and fixing swings for a very long time with some of the best hitting coaches in MLB.
You have nothing to lose at this point....2 weeks

Quote from JasonE135 on October 31, 2019, 3:12 pmI am pretty sure they will make an offer to Stammen. He is not great or exciting but he is reliable. That makes him very valuable in today's game. I have seen on several other team's sites that they want to sign him. I actually expect a small bidding war for him which we will not win. Everybody needs relievers.

Quote from fenn68 on October 31, 2019, 4:29 pmSo far the drops have been as expected ... really only getting international pool money for Jankowski is a bit of a surprise (and a plus).
Not sure the Padres’ strategy of putting players out on waivers ... but clearly not all at the same time since Kennedy has cleared and Stock was claimed. Maybe they are staging them while working out (or trying to) minor deals such as for Jankowski.
I guess if they have a list of drops the are OK with greater than the required drops ... maybe working the minor trades gets them something at least while not really caring about the last survivors.
