Quote from Randy Manese on April 4, 2022, 9:24 amDid they change the number of players at AAA? Last year, the max was 28 players at both AAA and AA with Hi and low A able to keep 30. These numbers are consistent with what was announced with the Padres minor league rosters so far, absent El Paso. It would seem they would want to keep 28 at AAA given the late ST camp for the majors. Anyway, we should know very soon!
Oh yes, Akiyama is not Suzuki who was off to slow start in ST but should be at least major league average for the Cubs.

Quote from lafnboy13 on April 4, 2022, 9:47 amGreg Bird was just released by Toronto. He would be an excellent stash in AAA, especially if we dump Hosmer.

I think (but not sure), that at least for April the minor league teams have expanded rosters. From looking at the rosters … the extra seems to be carrying 16 pitchers (unless I missed some and the names totaled 29 with 13 position players). AA/A+/A for the Padres all seem to have the same structure.
Given the number of players that are still not placed … excluding the AAA types … an initial 30 will allow for some final tweaks at the lower levels. At some point, have to expect a lower “active” roster.

IMO Kim should be our super utility guy off the bench….hoping Abrams starts at SS….or at least against all RH starters with Kim in against Lefties.
As things stand it certainly seems like Abrams is going to be on the roster. If he is he needs to play. I hope they can find a way to do it without taking too many ABs away from Kim. It looks like he's shortened up his leg kick a little bit and it sounds like he's starting to get better adjusted to life in the states. I don't want to put too much faith in spring numbers, but he looks better. With how good his glove is and how much we have invested in him I want to see him get at least a month of regular ABs to try to prove himself offensively.

Quote from 84padres on April 4, 2022, 7:03 pmTigers got Austin Meadows from T Bay for nothing. A garbage non prospect Parades and Comp B pick. I wish we could've traded Hosmer and freed up a little cap space

I was bummed to see that trade too. What a miss.

Quote from sportwarrior on April 4, 2022, 7:53 pmThey choose to go over the luxury tax threshold for yet another starting pitcher but wouldn't for a legit LF option like Meadows? What's going on?

Quote from fenn68 on April 5, 2022, 2:20 amI have to wonder what TB wanted from the Padres for Meadows? Really don’t think the money was the stumbling block.
Parades is not that much of a prospect (was a couple of years ago a Detroit top 10 guy) and a Comp B pick on the surface is not a great haul for TB.
On the other hand, with that low return, surprised no other team was offering TB more … maybe we are over-rating Meadows. Also, initially surprised TB was dealing him (they did not have to) and now surprised by what they accepted.
He clearly was “on the market” all winter with no takers … we are missing something in his valuation.

Quote from dusty on April 5, 2022, 3:37 amWhile I too am surprised that is all it took to get meadows, I think you guys are really undervaluing that comp pick. Not to mention for the padres, they have a comp A pick. So we are talking an end of the first round type of player for Meadows such as James Wood or Robert Gasser if we compare it to who the Padres picked up last year. Only this year think 30 or so picks higher than those two.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 5, 2022, 4:50 amI take it to mean AJ still has something else in mind for LF.
Maybe I'm wrong...but I just don't see him standing pat, especially now that we added Manaea.
