Especially if we have the DH.
Who else available has 40 HR potential who may also be affordable?
Sign a starter like Stroman or Wiley.
A LF/DH like Soler or Conforto……and then pray for player health.
I’m not as worried about the BP when we have guys like Lamet,Weathers,Paddack who may not make the rotation.
But if Kela is healthy I’d like to bring him back….how much is our option?
Maybe sign a guy like Graveman,Knebel,Neris or Hand.
Well....winning WS MVP has given him some more negotiating power.
Still should be one of the more affordable Big Bats* on the market.
Depends on the definition of "affordable" a 29 year old power hitter who hit 48 HR in 2019 and should be a good bet to be 30+ HR going forward should get a lot of interest .... especially if the DH is in the NL.
A good chance he gets a qualified offer ... and declines it with this agent betting he can do better than 1 year / $18.5MM.
Whether it is Soler or one of the other BIG names (Baez, Correa, Seager, et. al) ... not sure enough money around to make them all happy especially in this CBA winter. One or more may have to take a "pillow contract" for one year to move out of the congestion this winter. Also, maybe "dangerous" to hold out for premium dollars into ST ... so could we see one or more sign early (Nov?) to lock 2022. In the past the "early signs" seem to make out the best if there is a lot of competition. We will see.

Quote from Randy Manese on November 3, 2021, 10:36 amHe's been injured a lot so his track record is not as solid as one would like, but I'm looking at a qualified offer being made (Braves favor him over Joc Pederson to make a qualifying offer) and more like 3 years at 54. His age, potential when healthy and value to the team (particularly if the almost certain DH gets into the new CBA) seem preferable over Pederson and Braves probably won't want to expand the payroll that much even after winning the World Series. Got to pay Freeman!

Quote from fenn68 on November 3, 2021, 10:48 amJust realized that since Soler was traded mid-season the Braves can’t give a QO (as I understand) … oddly that may increase his price since the team signing him does not lose anything else.

Quote from BoosterSD on November 3, 2021, 12:20 pmDoes anyone else think that Freddie Freeman owes it to his son to sign with the Padres, so Freeman can play everyday with his son's favorite player?
Trade Hosmer and sign Freeman, Preller owes that much to Freeman's son IMO!! Hahaha.........:-)

Quote from WindsorUK on November 3, 2021, 4:48 pmI never understood the trade for Frazier. And after watching him as a Padre, I still have ZERO idea why in the world Preller traded for him.
He MUST be included in any trade we make this off season, whether it be with Myers or Hosmer, or whomever.
He has NO position on this team. To expect him to rotate in the OF is just folly. He doesn't have the defensive chops to hold down ANY OF position, nor does he have the hitting prowess to be considered a corner OF.
As a 2021 All Star, surely he holds some value to some team?
I just see no possible way he is a Padre January 1.

Quote from WindsorUK on November 3, 2021, 4:56 pmIf the DH is truly to be added to the NL, is not Jorge Ona a possibility?
I know he has a horrible history of injury but surely they've gotta give him a shot? Too many times Padres has given up on young guys with power( see Reyes and Rizzo)
Give the kid a shot before throwing him on the baseball scrap heap.

Quote from Randy Manese on November 3, 2021, 7:31 pmLooks like more than 2 dozen former Padres relief pitchers on the current FA list, including old favorites Kimbrel, Hand, Yates and Rosenthal. Doubt any of them are coming our way, but it will be interesting to see if any of them have anything left. By the way, Altavilla outrighted today and I'm guessing several around 5-6 more pitchers will be on their way out before the 19th.

White Sox need a 2b.
But I like Frazier as an everyday 2b for us.
Great #2 hitter on most teams would be an even better #8 hitter for us.
But....what do we do with Crone in this case?
Is his situation tied to Hosmer?
Would Crone be wasted at 1b due to his superior defense at 2b and even SS?
All I know is if we can somehow move Hosmer I'd be OK with Crone at 1b and Frazier at 2b for this last season of Fraziers' contract.
